Police investigating death of 7-week-old infant at Tampa hotel
TAMPA -- Police are investigating the death of a 7-week-old infant who was staying with his parents at the Marriott Waterside Hotel at 700 S Florida Ave. in downtown Tampa.
Elijha Cameron was found not breathing in his parents' hotel room shortly before 6 a.m. today, Tampa police say. The cause of death is unknown at this time.
Police say an investigation is standard procedure for unexplained infant deaths.
According to the police, the parents are Amber L. Hinkle, 24, and Daniel Cameron, 26. The couple is from Davenport, FL.
They were staying at the Marriott while attending the annual conference of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, said Marriott manager David Offenhauser.
Offenhauser released the following statement:
"The hotel is deeply saddened by the tragedy that occurred this morning. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire family. The employees are devastated and shocked by this tragedy."
Police don't expect to issue any more information until Monday.
