MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- Murfreesboro police have charged a man with stealing chains from a swing set at the home where an infant was killed by a tornado.
Police spokesman Kyle Evans says 50 year-old Mark Miller was spotted by officers and witnesses taking the chains and loading other scrap metal from the yard at Haynes Drive and Sulphur Springs Road into his truck on Thursday.
The owner of the property is John Bryant, whose wife, Kori, and 9 week-old daughter, Olivia, were killed in the tornado a week ago.
Police charged Miller for theft under $500. He is being held on a $5,000 bond and scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court June 18.
Evans said this has been the only looting case following the tornado that ripped through Murfreesboro, causing millions of dollars in damage.
