i find the thanks/groan options to be silly. if someone
has something to say, they should voice their opinion.
hitting the wee dingy is lame. either speak up
or shut up. patting each other on the back or shivving
someone in the ribs should
be done in words=imho.

i don't care if the feature isnt changed-
i just wanted to blither about how
asinine it comes off to me.

total weenie ville

Meeeeehhh, Its kind of irrelevant to say "good post" or "I dont agree with you" when you feel you have nothing further to add.

So far I havent used the groan thing but I use the thanks all the time, Its an easy non repetitive posts way to tell someone you apreciate what theyve writen and/or agree with em. whats so bothersome about that?

Anyway, Im so gona debut the groan thing with this post.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on that one, I think that its much cleaner to see the X number of users thankful for a post than sift through X number of posts with "ditto!" or "word", although it would boost the post count....

I don't like to do groans and they're usually in jest or pointed at Swivel but for blathering on about something useful I gotta share one here. Thanx luv

Which is exactly why the feature was created and is one of the MOST popular mods made for vBulletin.

then i suggest a *moan* option as well-as i'm more likely to
want to do that

Also, taint, speaking of asinine...why do you post like you are writing a poem?

I mean this in all seriousness. I know that we occasionally have members who post in some off-kilter "style"...I guess to separate themselves from everyone else...I dunno...we once had a guy who refused to capitalize words OR provide spaces after commas...

But if that is the case, wouldn't you rather be known for the content of your posts, rather than the aggravating format you present it in? It's almost like having a discussion with a group of people, who are ALL inputting useful information, but one of them does so using Pig Latin.

hmmm-i dunno-i guess in all frankness i don't truly care what anyone
thinks of what i'm saying. i have no interest in converting anyone's way of thinking with my posts. when i say i don't care i don't mean the "fuck you" i don't care-more
of the "eh" i don't care. i'm usually on the phone and typing with one hand-i don't sit and think it all out-i just spiel. i spit something out then i get up and go attend to
my duties, phone rings and i'm stuck yapping (i HATE talking on the phone) so i tink away while i run thru answers for the prospective client. i do most of my communications by email but at some point, a phone call iis necessary. i'll lose connection where i live if i try to work the yard or ride. so i sit and spit.

it seems, here on this site, that you all are content with the tight faction you have already and arent really *wanting* other people to come in and post. read yes-but not post.

as you told me a while back; i'm sure i'll be out of here in a month. if you want me gone sooner-you need only ask.

the time i spend on chat boards is my free time and i usually don't want to discuss my
work or life so much as have a lark. in real life i am known for my words and actions=on the internet i have no aspirations to be known as anything.

I love the feature. I enjoy reading a lot of the discussion on this site but a lot of times I really don't have anything to add to the conversation besides simply agreeing or disagreeing. I don't feel like I can join in on most of the topics on here because I don't have enough "life experience" to do so. It's great way to lurk and still let people know you're reading what they are saying. Keep it.

I like it.

Mostly because I am collecting little green boxes. Some people collect stamps or Webkinz. I collect approval from strangers on the internet.

Taint, I am truly not trying to be a smart ass but damn, why bother to post if you do not give a shit about what your saying or what anyone thinks of it? Just curious why you would bother wasting your time in such a way?

You also stated this, "it seems, here on this site, that you all are content with the tight faction you have already and arent really *wanting* other people to come in and post. read yes-but not post."
You know a lot of us are new here. I joined up back in November. Though the forums can get tough at times, I have never felt unwanted. I learned right away, that you must have a good sense of humor here, and if you are going to say something, don't talk out your ass. Now I've not been "all around" the net, but I've been a few other places, and the folks that are here, is the reason why I fell in love with this site.

Then I guess that leads me to asking if that is the case, why do you care if anyone thanks you or not? Seems that you created a post solely to bitch about a feature you state that you care nothing for???

I don't use the Quick Reply button...but I don't feel the need to create a post stating that.

We have no desire to run off anyone and welcome everyone, but there are certain protocols and "rules" that are sometimes set by me, but are usually set by precedent of the other users and what they expect. What we don't like, are usually two things. New people coming in on the attack, and "characters".

Again, they are welcome, but they may not be liked. If these types of people do not care that they may not be well received (and if the shoe fits...well, you know...wear it) then by all means, go for it. But this forum is nobody's personal stage. If anyone wants to come in here and attempt to use it as such, a suggest masturbating on a street corner if you are starving for attention that bad, as you will not be welcome here.

That being said, every active poster on this forum (aside from approx 4 of us) are new. There is no clique here. Just a group of people who share some common traits who want the site to succeed, and like me, do not want it overrun with idiocy. Hate Jesus? Love Satan? Democrat? Republican? Racist? Jew? Kathylick? Don't care.

Just. Demonstrate. Intelligence.

Lastly, since every bit of this site is supplied to everyone out of my pocket, and my pocket alone, I don't think it is too much to ask when I simply request someone do something so simple as...Oh, I don't know...hit enter button at the end of a sentence, not in the middle.

Let me try and sum it up like this. This goes to every member, active or inactive, to every lurker and to anyone out there who is thinking of joining in the discussions. We love our site. People spend a lot of their own time keeping this site running and providing a place for you to share your thoughts. We do not give a shit about your viewpoints, whether they align with the majority or the minority. All we ask is for you to ask yourself one simple question before you hit submit.

Do you make the site better, or do you make it worse?

If you honestly think that you are, or can be, an asset to this site and this forum, then post away. But if you think you may make, or are currently making, the site worse, then I ask you to please move along. There are a TON of forums out there for you.

well-first of all-my posting this thread was in response to lady valkrye getting "no thanked" to pieces on another thread. before that i thought the option was lame but i only found it amusing when i was groaned at etc. when i saw lady v. getting no thanked out the yin yang by a throng who , for the most part, were dinging on the bandwagon of someone who could put in to words what they wanted to say. ** i do think anyone who posts on a internet board should be ready to take a hazing.} in that instance, the thanks/no thanks just seemed like mob rule and practically intimidation tactics. whether i agree or not with what was being discussed isnt my point. i thought imp's argument was substantial and didnt need "thanks"-the thanks, imo, served to squash out any chance of a reasonable discussion. peanut gallery jeering that put down anything the new comer had to say, and imo-shutting down a balanced discussion. lady v. isnt a friend of mine, i'm not trying to stick up for her or anyone. the thanks/no thanks -imo-was counterproductive.

for myself, i feel ready to rebuff and retort relatively unfazed. mocking me, disagreeing
with me, et al is fair game. i'm not speaking for lady v.-i'm sure she can speak for herself. reading the thread came off as a gang up and doesnt encourage free discussion.

in the end=it is your board, morbid. that in of itself negates any opposition i may present. the only appropriate thing to do is step off if posts arent being presented in the fashion you want to see.

adding something to this board? i should hope to never be so arrogant as to think my presence increased the value of any chat board.

making the board "worse"? not in my opinion.

a friend of mine told me to come check out this site; he said the guy that runs it was cool and he was trying to get more traffic. i came over, perused, didnt have any plans on becoming a regular or not. something was brought up on the front board that made me want to respond-so i did. a lot of the chit chat between mods was about increasing traffic (it seemed)- i added some input and had a couple of friends come over and check out the site, sign up-most of them just read-a couple posted.

anyhoo-youre right-other boards are probably a better outlet for me. i suppose, in the future, i should censor my posts to what i think you will find appropriate or keep my thoughts to myself.

hippie=i DO care what i'm saying, it's how other people take what i'm saying that
i'm not so much interested in. i have found that i can't make everyone happy with my thoughts, and trying to do so isnt realistic. stating my opinion candidly and unabridged seems the right way for me to go.

If that is truly how you feel about yourself then yeah, maybe you would be better off elsewhere.

I like the thank option for all the reasons detailed in this thread. The groan option is useful for the same reasons, I think, but frankly, it's not my style. I think people deserve to hear why I think their opinions are bullshit. That being said, I certainly wouldn't discourage the use of the function. :)

Seriously I hope this is not true. This site will live a longer life and thrive with word of mouth if we do welcome fresh new perspectives ideas and thoughts...You might want to stick around long enough so people get to know what your about...that is if you care. Also make no apologies for your point of view so as long as your are not being outright mean and useless. Your comment on thanks/nothanks was an opinion...maybe not a popular one but still your opinion and I think this site does care that people get to voice just that.

oh, and THANKS for putting in your 2cents...it matters.
