http://i359.photobucket.com/albums/oo35/Special2bme/46352075.jpgA 54-year-old man wanted by Lehigh County detectives and the U.S. Marshals Service for allegedly raping two girls in January was arrested Friday in Allentown hours after his picture was posted on-line, authorities said.
Joseph Eck Sr., last known address 614 Railroad St., Catasauqua, was charged in February with the assaults of two girls, ages 5 and 8. Deputy U.S. Marshal Henry Trevino said Eck fled after learning that relatives of the girls were going to file charges in January.
Authorities say someone in Whitehall saw Eck's picture on The Morning Call's Web site, mcall.com, and flagged down a Whitehall police officer, who then called the U.S. Marshals Service.
Deputies with the Marshals Service along with Allentown police made the arrest in the 500 block of N. Mohr Street in Allentown where he had been staying for the past two days.
Eck is charged with rape of a child, involuntary sexual deviance with a child and aggravated indecent assault of a child. He is also charged with unlawful contact with a child, indecent exposure, endangering the welfare of a child and corruption of minors.
He was taken to the Lehigh County Booking Center and arraigned before District Judge Carl Balliet.
Eck was sent to Lehigh County Prison on $500,000 bail.
