Beech Grove officers arrested 29-year-old Zach Petty Easter morning for marijuana possession and child neglect.
Neighbors called police around 3:30 am Easter morning saying they heard a child screaming and crying. When officers arrived at Petty's home on South Third Street, they found his six- and five-year-old sons unattended.
While searching the house for their father, police found drug paraphernalia in the kitchen. They also reportedly found marijuana plants growing in the basement.
Officers eventually reached Petty on his cell phone and he returned home with a couple of explanations.
"The first being he want to pick up a friend at a bar. Then he changed that story and advised that he was looking for a prostitute in the Indianapolis areas," said Capt. Robert Mercuri, Beech Grove Police Department.
Poor kids were probably terrified when they woke up and realized they were home alone. I am looking for more info to see where the mother is.
