Thirty-five-year-old Jonathan Fitzgerald Harrell was acquitted of knifing his former girlfriend in 2007. They got back together, and last year, the woman accused him of seriously assaulting her and not letting her leave her home.
On Wednesday, Burlington police arrested Harrell on allegations he beat another woman, who reportedly is pregnant with his child. He is charged in that incident with domestic abuse assault.
Police said officers and an ambulance crew were dispatched Wednesday night on reports a woman had been assaulted there.
Officers said the woman had blood on both of her hands, shirt, nose and around her mouth. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
During an interview with detectives, the woman said she learned she was pregnant and confronted her boyfriend, Harrell, about it. She went to a home on Delmar Street and found Harrell.
The woman alleged she was sitting in the front passenger side of a car when Harrell struck her in the nose with a closed fist. It was after that that she and an unidentified driver drove away.
The woman told police she was seven weeks pregnant, and she and Harrell lived in the 500 block of Summer Street since January. Harrell, according to what the woman told detectives, reportedly was kicked out of the apartment last week.
For his part, Harrell said the woman showed up at his girlfriend's Delmar Street home and was pounding the door.
After seeing it was her, Harrell said he went outside and prevented the woman from closing the car door. He told detectives he did not recall whether he might have hit the woman, denying he lived with her.
Harrell still faces allegations he held his former girlfriend who lives in the Delmar Street home against her will during an assault in October.
The alleged victim in that incident reportedly told police she and Harrell lived together over the past year, and in August, things went sour and Harrell took his things from the home.
At 9 a.m. Oct. 6, the Delmar Street woman was cleaning her garage when Harrell came by and asked how she was doing. Court papers indicate she told Harrell her mother was coming over to tell him to leave.
Police said the woman went inside and was getting ready to take a shower when Harrell came into the bathroom and allegedly began hitting her.
Authorities allege Harrell slapped the woman while she was on the floor. He allegedly grabbed her by the throat and punched her in the mouth and left eye.
Harrell allegedly held the woman down while the assault was taking place. She managed to get her keys and run outside.
He is charged in that case with serious domestic abuse assault and false imprisonment. A trial date has not been set.
That incident happened eight months after a Des Moines County jury acquitted Harrell of going armed with intent and aggravated assault, an incident police said happened in July 2007.
According to the investigation that was presented to the jury, Harrell shoved the Delmar Street woman into a car and assaulted her while driving around Burlington.
