Check out how this couple added some shelf-space along this hidden ladder which leads up to their bedroom loft:

If you have a bookshelf at home, take a pic and post it here so we can see what you read, and where you keep them.

Swivel, What a great thread! I love that clever bookcase. I need ideas like that. We are slowly....and damn I mean slowly, redoing this old farm house. Right now, I have boxes and boxes of books. They're in the garage, upstairs in my closet, my daughter's closet and downstairs in the Formal Dining Room. (Ha...far from formal right now):p After we redo the walls, I would like Mr. Hippie to build me some bookshelves. I've a couple overflowing bookcases right now in the Living Room, but I am almost too ashamed to show them. lol The kids both have bookshelves in their rooms, and they are a bit more organized. :)

Oh, I just had to share this picture. I guess I am fucking weird, but I try to organize my books by author in alphabetical order. Shit, I could have been doing it this way all along!

My bookshelves:
On the left in the Office. This bookcase design is interesting because there is no hardware used to hold it together and no glue. Just dowel rods shoved through 2x8's. This shelf is 5 years old, and stays full, so the design is durable as well.

Same design to the right in the Office. This one was just built a few months ago, since we moved away from all of our built-ins in Virginia.

This is the built-in I framed around a window in the Living Room. Sorry for the poor lighting.

So I will just post the office. This is all of the space we currently have. I have more boxes of books elsewhere.

The shelves were built in when we bought the place. You can see the light switch on the middle shelf facing the doorway. There is actually a half circle cut out of the side of the shelf so that you can turn the light on as you enter the room. I thought that was pretty neat.

Hey Kaki, you might be a tad jealous to find out that I used to hang out at Robert Jordan's house. :p
I've held boxes and boxes of First Editions of all his books in myriad languages. Used to swim laps in this narrow pool he has in the back yard, and play with his sword collection. He has a massive, authentic, sword collection.
Guy is wicked-smart. So much so that it makes him a tad strange. Very cool dude. And used to tease me because I was big into SF and fantasy as a kid, but still have not read a single one of his books.
Edit: I LOVE the red with the Asian theme. That room rocks. In my last house we had a fan on a wall just like you do, now all I have is one Japanese sword (WWI) and some throwing-stars.

Jordan is good, but that cocksucker is just stringing the series along. I gave up after waiting and waiting for the next book to come only to have to go back and practically re-read the previous volume to refresh the memory.
I like Asian things. Food, culture, women.:D Red and gold are supposed to bring good financial fortune and are therefore good colors for an office.;)
