I was pumped for this. I think the Die Hard trilogy is a really fun ride and I figured once Stallone came back for Rocky Balboa, a lot of the older series reboots would come back into focus (Especially since people actually liked Rocky).
Then, the PG-13 rating came like a thief in the night and stole my hope. I don't care how much Bruce pimps this movie on AICN, I am extremely skeptical about this. First, the Alien and Predator series were given a horrible, watered down reboot and stripped of its R rating appeal. Now this? Can he even say his famous line?

I'm still looking forward to this, but I am puzzled by the PG-13 route as well. Not that I don't think they cannot pull off a kickass action-flick to end the Die-Hard series, but still. Strange move. Or not. I dunno. I guess we will see, but I will be there opening weekend. :)

PG-13, R, G... Who cares? it's John McClane! Yippee-ki-yay, motherfucker!
Although, If it is PG-13 you won't be hearing such classic lines as these...
"Asshole? I'm not the one who just got butt-fucked on national TV, *Dwayne*."
"Ooops, no bullets. What do you think, I'm fucking stupid, Hans?"
"You motherfucker, I'm gonne kill you! I'm gonna fuckin' cook you, and I'm gonna fuckin' eat you!"

I think that is the point. Without lines like that, it isn't exactly John McClane. It's John McClane lite.

Thats pretty much how I'm looking at it. Will I still be there to see it opening night? Sure I will. But, I do fear the worst. I hope the action in the film makes up for the lack of witty/overly obscene one liners.

Oh, sorry. You still going to see it opening weekend? I am pretty sure I will be there. I have seen all the others (didn't like the third one, though.)

OMG, Didn't like the third one? Ok it was cartoony but it was funner than hell!
Die Hard 2 was good the first time you see it but then watch it again and it turns gay!
Like "Iron Eagle" "Rocky 4" or "Ghostbusters 2" ;)

Yes, I'll be there opening weekend! I think!

The action in this looks ridiculous. I predict this to be a total franchise killer. I love the Die Hard flicks, and even though the action was borderline unbelieveable, it never crossed the line of being totally absurd. Plus without the "R" rating it's not Die Hard. It's Die Soft.

I couldn't find a thread for it, and since the film opened today, it only seemed right to create one. So, first off, who has seen the film so far? Who plans to?

I caught an afternoon showing of it, and came in with low expectations. Given Bruce Willis' age and the PG-13 rating, I expected it to be a far cry from the top notch trilogy that preceeded it. And it turns out that my concerns weren't very well placed. True, the original three films were better than this one, but not by much. Even without an R rating, the violence remained pretty much unchanged. A little less blood to match the explosions, and only one utterance of his signature line, but still nothing that truly hampered my enjoyment of the film. The action scenes were largely good, though some of them were a little absurd in terms of the "not dead from that" factor. One scene, the jet scene, had awful CGI. But otherwise, the effects were fairly well done. The dialogue was also a strong point, with Willis having a decent number of funny lines to lighten the mood, and Justin Long providing a nice balance to Bruce's bravado. Other than the one bad CGI scene, my only complaint is the runtime. The movie didn't need to be 130 minutes long. In spite of all the action, it just seemed to lag at times. Still, I'd suggest you all see it in theaters.

Just watched it and I liked it! Movie was in 4 parts and part 2 would not work!
So I missed the whole Helicopter chase scene...
then it picked up where he was fighting the chick with the SUV!
Otherwise it was pretty good quality. I will still have to check it out at the theater!

What the fuck is this?!

Unreal.

I wonder if the movie companies have any idea how much money they would make if they released films to the Internet and Set-Top boxes on the day of release for $2.50? I would watch every film that came out.

The way to combat piracy is to make shit so cheap that everyone will buy a copy, and the hassle of stealing is greater than the small expense. With streamlined distribution channels, and the ability to get rid of the middle-man, you could easily make more money by asking for less from each person. The ignorance of these industries just baffles me.

But there are margins to keep in mind. Theaters make most of their money from concessions. And the studios get their money from ticket sales, for which they keep the majority of the money for the first several weeks, when the largest number of people go to see a film. To cut costs too dramatically would mean taking a loss on alot of films, or seeing falling profit margins, thereby sinking stock prices.

gprime, Fuck the theaters. Fuck the popcorn and the gallon drinks. Those guys need to go out of business anyway. Nowadays everyone has a color screen at home that looks and sounds better than the movie palaces of my youth. Advances in technology mean change in delivery.

The movie-makers can make the same amount of money by direct distribution as they make by enriching the theaters, the HBO's and Showtimes, and the Rental guys. When you hear that a movie "made" $200 million, that means that the studio probably gets $120 million or so. They could surely get $2.50 from 60 million views worldwide and not have to print a single roll of film for distribution. People would watch movies as throw-aways. They would watch shit they hardly care about, and pay to watch their favorites a few times over. If you want to see how the micro-transaction model means big bucks, look at ringtones.

But it presumes people have comparable technology. Yes, many do these days. They are not the majority though. I can tell you that we don't have anything impressive in my house. For anything with good special effects, I'd rather pay to see it in theaters. And really, the ticket prices aren't too bad. With a college ID, it usually costs me around $6 a ticket, and I don't buy any food there. A lower pricetag would be great, and there are some positives to home viewing, but I think we're a long way away from it replacing theaters rather than just taking away market share.

This movie got me pumped. I was expecting ridiculous no-brainer hamburger pounding American brewed action and it delivered. Me like big booms, crass heros, and snappy one liners.....

Just got back. I liked it. Bruce surprised me with how well he still fit the role (and probably could for a couple more Die-Hard movies if he chose to.)

The Mac guy did a good job as well and not once did he come off the annoying cunt I though he would. The action sequences were great, with my only gripe being the last few minutes with John on top of the jet. Other than that, I was satisfied.

I would rate the movies:

Die Hard 1 > Die Hard 2 > Dies Hard 4 > Die Hard 3

Die Hard 3 was my second favorite one. I think I'd rate Die Hard 2 in last place.

I already have. I hated the third one, and while I liked this one, I still like the second one more...a lot having to do with the fact of all the returning characters from the first film.
