View Full Version : Missing Ice is Found!

The missing ice that Al Gore has been looking for has now been found.

After much of the ice at the polar caps was found to be missing, it now appears that this may have to do with a new scientific phenomenon which scientists are calling "Summer". This "Summer" seems to have worn off, and now we are experiencing one of the coldest "Winters" on record.

There is a THIRD MORE ice around Antarctica than normal for this time of year.

It is a good thing that the people who are profiting from this fear-mongering have taken to calling it "Climate Change", instead of "Global Warming". Now they will be able to explain every natural fluctuation in climate as a direct result of the "evils" of Capitalism, consumerism, and technology.

And while we bankrupt our economy investing in wind and solar power, the cheapest "alternative" sources of energy remain fossil fuels and nuclear energy. The two forms that provide the most technological advancement, and the two that the "progressives", who think we were better-off as cave-men, seem intent on bringing down.

... scientists say the northern hemisphere has endured its coldest winter in decades.

They add that snow cover across the area is at its greatest since 1966.

The one exception is Western Europe, which has – until the weekend when temperatures plunged to as low as -10C in some places – been basking in unseasonably warm weather. The UK has reported one of its warmest winters on record.

However, vast swathes of the world have suffered chaos because of some of the heaviest snowfalls in decades.

On the topic of global warming, there was a great documentry called "The Great Global Warming Swindle", which you can watch online (http://en.sevenload.com/videos/ha4PoKY/The-Great-Global-Warming-Swindle). And, for those with R2 support, there is a UK dvd (http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Great-Global-Warming-Swindle/dp/B000OOOKZS).

You know how many BILLIONS, maybe TRILLIONS the global economy is going to waste on this shit? It just boggles the mind.

Meanwhile, scientists who need money for other Earth sciences are finding that there is none to be had. Science grants follow fads. The work by one team, which demonstrated that water vapor is a worse greenhouse gas than CO2 is going ignored and underfunded. The work by one maverick, who has shown a correlation between solar activity and the temperature changes on Earth and Mars is going largely ignored. I say largely, because he did get some play in Discover, but was attacked and vilified for it.

The party for "free speech" doesn't want to hear anything unless it follows their anti-Capitalism agenda. Just as the far Right does not trust people to be decent to one another unless forced, the far Left doesn't trust people to be intelligent, unless they are blindly following THEIR agendas. You have two wings of fanaticism. One that stifles society in the name of "morality", and the other that hampers progress in the name of "progressivism". I would laugh if I could stop crying.

People are really more inclined to believe the world is ending, that everything is going to shit, so it's an easy sell to get people thinking that we are doomed to global warming. It's about the money, the politics, and not the science.

It'd be awfully nice if this caused people to back up off the hybrid vehicles. I know a great many of them buy hybrid because of the cost of fuel...But even if it coaxes one goddamn hippie environmentalist out of a Prius, my world will be a better place. The 2008 Chevy Cobalt is an attractive car, and cheap, starting around $12,000. I don't know how reliable it is, but a high production American car will have inexpensive parts, at least. I don't know anything about its safety rating either...But what the hell do I care about safety? I'm 25. I'm going to live forever.

I'll see if I can find a study done by an economic professor. He found that a Prius has the same environmental "cost" over its lifespan as a Hummer. This was due to the production of the batteries, the shipping of materials, and the recycling costs of both vehicles.

His conclusion: Buy a cheap car that gets good gas millage.

Edit: Hmmm... here is one study, but not the guy I'm thinking of.

And here is a counter-argument:

I cheap, hopefully more attractive car than the Prius. This criteria, of course, excludes and version of the Scion other than the coupe (and even that is questionable), the Aztec, the FJ Cruiser and...that's about it.

Of course, I bought a cheap car with a V6 that requires premium right before the significant gas hike a few years ago. Not the brightest crayon in the box, apparently. At least it's a manual.

Oh, and hooray for Reason.org. Most appropriate website name EVER. :p

Probably an older video, but some great points made by people not named "Bill Nye".
