I saw this movie about two months ago. It is really, really great. It will most definitely hold a place in my top 10 for the year.
I will admit that I went into it very skeptical. While I don't hate The 40 Year Old Virgin, I don't think it is the gut-busting affair everyone else makes it out to be. I actually preferred Wedding Crashers over it (Which I believe came out around the same time). When I heard all of the rave reviews it had gotten at SXSW, it peaked my interest a little but I still wasn't overly optimistic about it.
Then, I saw it. I'm pretty tough on comedies (Only certain actors really do it for me) but this film had me in tears. Seth Rogen and Paul Rudd definitely shined in this movie (Much like they did in Virgin). Katherine Hegel, while really hot, didn't really get into the whole improv feel of the movie but I didn't feel her character really need to.
The story is really great because there is a contrast between the couples in the film (Hegel lives with her sister's family and they provide a FOIL for her and Rogen's budding relationship). It's almost like there are two complimenting films going on at once.
Some people complained about the running time but I honestly didn't notice it went over two hours. I consistently laughed through the whole film (Which is something I rarely ever do) and it was just impressing on the whole.
This movie is a perfect comedy in my book. I really can't see anyone outright hating it.
10/10

As most people who know me can attest to, I do not watch many comedies. Not to say I don't like to laugh at funny movies, as I do, but it has to be REALLY friggin' funny. I laugh all day as me and my friends an co-workers do nothing but crack jokes, so I tend to watch movies that are not realted to emotions I experience on an hourly basis.

However, I have a handful of comedies I like and own. Most are considered classics, and some are well-known. 40 Year Old Virgin is one of those films that I love so I have been waiting to see this. I don't think the trailers do it justice, though.

First, Horrorholic... I'm tired of you pricks seeing movies so damn early. I've been to one actual movie premier in my life (Gods & Generals). How the fuck are you people always seeing things so early?

I'm actually the same way Killroy. Sometimes I doubt my maturity because of how far my friends and I will go to get a laugh. I hardly ever watch comedies though. I've rented 2 since I got Netflix and I only go to see them in theaters if I am familiar with the people making them.

I actually tend to find movies that aren't necessarily comedies funnier than the successful comedies.

I guess the word of the day is H-A-T-E.;)
I write for certain other sites and have a hook-up in town that gives me passes to just about everything that screens early in Orlando.

Well now I hate you even more. I actually was part of a fairly successful site that shall also remain nameless, but the only benefits that I have retained are a few folks that are nice enough to send me some early news here and there. I guess it's all in who you know. :arf:

There are never early screenings in my area anyway though.

Same here Morbid, I like to laugh but I laugh all day at work...
So when somebody says go see this because it's funny! Whatever!
Movies that made me laugh out loud in theaters are...

Wild Hogs
The 40-Year-Old Virgin
Dirty Love  (my wife says?)
Shaun of the Dead
Dodgeball
Something About Mary
Ghostbusters

There are more but not many!
