New Brunswick police are asking the public for help after the body of an infant boy was found Saturday in a snowbank in the Moncton area.
The baby was discovered early Saturday evening by four people who were riding all-terrain vehicles on Taylor Road near Mount Eagle, RCMP Cpl. Marie Beaudry said.
It was the second such incident in Canada in two days. The body of an infant boy was found wrapped in a plastic bag Thursday in a yard between two houses in an east Vancouver neighbourhood.
New Brunswick police said they don't know the baby's identity or how long the body was outside. An autopsy was being conducted Sunday in Saint John.
"It's possible the newborn could have been there as early as November 2008," Beaudry said. "Because of the snow, it's hard to tell how long it's been there."
So far there are no suspects, police said. But officers are asking the public for assistance and hoping the birth mother will come forward. "The baby could be from the area but also could be from anywhere outside the area," Beaudry said.
Investigators aren't sure how long the autopsy will take, but hope to have more information on Monday. Until then, the circumstances will remain somewhat of a mystery, Beaudry said.
"We need a lot more information before we can direct our investigation in a certain direction," she said.

Since we're now throwing rocks at Canadian criminals, too, you can post Canadian crime stories in Reality Bites.

unfortunatly in East Vancouver thats another sign of how bad the drugs/prostitutes really are.Drugs are like water in that area.Thats where Picton picked up all his hookers he murdered by offering free drugs.http://www.nationalpost.com/news/canada/story.html?id=1273270 heres link explaining only reason they are now going to clean it up is b/c Olympics are there this winter.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Pickton b/c of them being hookers no one looked for them for few yrs.So that baby is probrably related to hooker/druggy/etc,,,really sad though,so many want them and cant have them

OK, my Animal Control (aka dog pound) has what is considered a barbaric and outdated system for after hours drop offs. You know people are going to drop their critters when no one's there so they don't have to answer questions. Rather than tying them up to the doorknob, there are two chutes for the unwanted critters: Dogs and Cats. The obvious issue with this is that sometimes the critters fight and the Animal Control folks come in to find injured and/or dead critters. BUT it's better than many alternatives for people who absolutely do not want to be identified.
So a woman who feels she must get rid of her newborn but, for whatever reason, doesn't want to give out any information about herself should have a way of doing that. Maybe something like the little door in the bathroom at the doctor's office where you sit your pee cup and a tech takes it from the other side. Only bigger and warm/cool. And attended by someone who can't see the person who makes the drop off.
I don't know. I'm tired and these stories of abandoned infants just frustrate me. Why? Why do the moms do this? What can society do to prevent it? I mean, abandon your kids all you want. Just do it in a safe place. Not in a snowbank, toilet, trashcan........

I don't know how you came to be or why your life ended.
But I'll remember you little one as baby Noah Jophiel.

I think these mothers just don't want to be seen out in public with a baby. I would like to see a program that would send someone, a nurse or EMT, out to discreetly pick up a newborn.

3 days is not nearly enough. The law should go for 2 years.

I'm glad that these laws exist but, I only wish that the lawmakers would take into account that it can take weeks for PPD to set in and it can last for months to years... that's only one example of why the age should be extended.

I agree... that would save many lives. There's this "ooh & aah" period that comes after having a baby and unfortunately once it sets in that a baby is real work, some incubators just don't want that responsibility...
I would rather be disgusted by a mom dropping off her 1 year old at a hospital than be horrified by a mother murdering her child because she was overwhelmed.

Yeah thats a great idea having nurse pick them up.We just on Sat had first commercials here for the Safe Haven Law.I agree they should run it longer also but I have noticed here I have a few friends that are raising grand children so by the time they realize they arent mature enough or whatever the reason they have taken the babies from the son/daughter.My best friend has had her grandson since he was 1 month old.She had him over night while her son and his girlfriend went out.Police called at like 3 am and asked if she has the baby there b/c parents were in custody after crashing a stolen car.She said yes by 3:30-3:45 am they had her in front of JP and she was given emergency custody and hes going to be 3 next week and shes still got him.So Im glad thats one baby that couldve ended up in a dump or something. Also east Vancouver where that baby was found is mainly Indian territory also and I have noticed with cold cases I have researched not just there but even as it comes toward me in Southern Ontario along the waterways theres Indians fighting with OPP and other law enforcement all over land disputes and when Indians report a crime they are basically tossed into the "ignore pile".My mom is Indian and when she was born her family literally smuggled her out of Canada to Indiana for the first 2 yrs b/c they were taking the indian babies from the moms and putting them into "white homes" and you didnt get your baby back.So there really needs to be more help out there other then the 3 day Grace period.B/C alot of these babies found dont make the papers if they are Indian babies.

They already have "baby drop-off hatches" in Japan and other countries. We don't because 1) we waste our tax monies on stupid shit. and 2) our children don't seem to matter that much. It is a sad thing indeed.

Also last month in the states I cant remember where.A young mom dropped her baby off at a church wrapped and warm it was caught on video. She thought she was doing it legally and yet they released the tape and she was arrested b/c no one was in the church at the time.So you give a law, someone uses it THINKING they are using it properly but get arrersted and plastered all over news programs on tv.The bio dad didnt know she was preg and his mom now is raising her until hes home from Iraq.So maybe more education is needed about these laws so that people arent arrested and further humiliated like that girl that thought she was doing it right. And I wouldve though that someone would be in the church b/c here they literally live in the church. The Rev,Priest or whatever live in the homes attached to the back of the church.

Hundreds of people gathered in Moncton Friday to mourn an infant than none of them knew.
The newborn baby boy was found dead in a melting snowbank four weeks ago.
The community pitched in to give the baby -- dubbed Baby Taylor -- a proper burial after no one came forward to claim him. Police are still searching for the boy's parents.
Baby Taylor was to be buried at a cemetery near where his body was found.
Funds donated by the public paid for a tombstone for the infant. Any money left over was slated for donation to the obstetrics unit at two Moncton hospitals in memory of the baby.
