PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A mother is under arrest, accused of leaving her two children home alone. Investigators said one of the children carried the other to a neighbor's house to ask for help.

Police found the two young children home alone in an apartment with dirty dishes in the bathtub, half eaten food, and garbage.

A neighbor on the third floor called police after a 3-year-old girl, Anya, carried her 1-year-old brother, Calvin, upstairs to her apartment. "The little girl came upstairs with the baby in her hands, by the neck because she couldn't carry him," the neighbor said. The girl was asking where her mom was.

Police arrested the mother, Alcinda Lopes. She faces charges of cruelty or neglect of children.

The father of one of the children, who showed up at the house, said, "I just want to see my kid. She did that one time when we were together. That's why I started to fight with her."

While it's unclear how long the kids were left home alone for, both police and neighbors say the baby had a very soiled diaper.

Sources indicate this is not the first time the mother has left the kids alone.

Why do these women keep popping out kids that they can't be bothered to take care of? That poor child with the "very soiled diaper." Nasty. I'll bet his bottom was raw when they finally cleaned him up. She's so lucky that nothing worse happened to those kids.

That just breaks my heart. Poor babies. Perhaps dad would like to consider custody now.

If these people can't be responsible for doing something small like the dishes then they sure as hell shouldn't have children.

There is no excuse for treating children this way. None at all. Bitch.

Bless her little heart, she was trying her hardest to get them both help. I'm imaging that picture and it brings tears to my eyes because she probably isn't much bigger than the 1 yr. old. Then asking where her mom was how sad. These two toddlers deserve to have parents that will love and care for them the way they are supposed to be. I hope the 1 yr. old didn't suffer to much of a severe rash being in a soiled diaper for so long. I hope this cunt who doesn't deserve to be a mother or called a mother pays for her abuse & cruelty towards these precious children.

It really is sad that 3 year old knows not leave a 1 year old alone. Even when she couldn't really carry him, she took him with her. Not that much can be said about the mommy, which is infuriating.

When the bitch finally managed to drag herself home she would have probably leathered the 3yr old for not changing her brothers diaper! :rolleyes2:

This bitch needs to lose custody now, and she should NEVER be allowed to keep the many kids she is sure to pop out in the future. She is a fucking disgrace, and a lousy excuse for a mother.

EEWWW! According to the video at UCat's link, the cops think the diaper was DAYS-old dirty... plural - more than one day - gag.

I must have seen too many filthy homes on D'D... her's looked more like she got a clogged sink and was too lazy take care of it. It was messy, but not deep with shit. They used the table with some crap on it to show the home was littered with garbage.

Even if she was running out to get the plumber or hire a housekeeper, or just stand outside for fresh air, toddlers alone are dangerous... mom's that don't know that are even more dangerous.

I' d like to know where the fuck she went. Why was it so important and when the fuck did she plan on getting back? She was gone long enough that baby had pooped probably a couple of days worth in his diaper.

This young child taking her baby brother to find help says she has been left alone and has taken on the role of care taker for baby. At 3 years old. ....make me sick. She's already robbing this child of a carefree, childhood and placing unconscionable demands on her. She may not forget this incident, and soon enough will hate her mother in place of the love she still has for her....children are such forgiving beings.

I know this shit happens all the time, but it never gets easier reading it. The idea that children are fending for themselves and playing mama, too just breaks my heart.

Stupid bitch. Your no mother and you certainly don't deserve these precious ones.

Be happy and well Anya and baby Calvin.

When I read a story like this I just want to scoop the little ones up and whisk them away to Disneyland or some such place. A kid place, a happy place just to give them some happy kid thoughts and something good to remember. Then I'd take them shopping, buy them every toy under the sun and all new clothes. After that they would go to their new home, complete with new parents who would treasure them and NEVER leave them alone.

Yeah...if only.

The mom, well, about all she would get is a couple of large trash bags but I would be kind enough to point out where she needs to be standing come trash day.
