Misty Dawn Evans
Decatur County investigators have arrested and charged Misty Dawn Evans with first-degree murder in the slaying of her father, William Neely Evans, according to Sheriff Roy Wyatt.
Authorities have said William Evans was killed while he was out chopping wood on Bear Creek Road March 28. Wyatt said Misty Evans, 25, of Parsons, was arrested at 3:44 p.m. Friday in Decaturville without incident.
She is being held at the Decatur County Jail and will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Monday in General Sessions Court in Decaturville. Tennessee Bureau of Investigation officials have declined to release a cause of death for Evans and Wyatt on Friday would not say how he died.
Wyatt said investigators had been looking for suspects in the case all week. He said he didn't foresee any additional charges in the case.
Authorities have said that William Evans, 48, was killed between 5 and 5:40 p.m. on March 28 in the 1700 block of Bear Creek Road.
William Evans sold wood during the winter and that on March 28 he had gone to an old house about 300 yards down the road from his home to cut wood.
Rhodes said Misty Evans and William Evans' wife, Jenita Evans, took his grandson over to where he was working. She said the three had just gotten back to their house when they heard the sound of gunfire. "They heard two shots and went over there and found him,'' she said.
Rhodes said William Evans was a lifelong Decatur County resident who worked at Perryville Utility District in Parsons. He and his wife had been married 27 years.
