BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Broome County Sheriff's Deputies arrest a man they say raped a girl he coached. Deputies say Todd Broxmeyer, 37, sexually abused a 17-year-old girl.

They say he was coaching the girl at a sports complex in Lisle. He is charged with rape and sexual abuse and is being held without bail at the Broome County Jail.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A former Binghamton-area field hockey coach charged with rape faces additional charges.

Todd Broxmeyer, 37, is now also charged with possessing and producing or attempting to produce child pornography.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- A federal grand jury has indicted a field hockey coach accused of raping under-aged girls. The grand jury indicted Todd Broxmeyer of Lisle on production and possession of child pornography. He also faces a federal count of transporting a minor across state lines to engage in sexual activity.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- After five and a half hours, the jury found Todd Broxmeyer guilty on all five federal counts. Inside the courtroom, a former player and her mother burst into tears upon hearing the final verdict. Broxmeyer showed little emotion.

"To say we're disappointed is an understatement. A little shocked and amazed by a couple of the counts," said Patrick Kilker, Broxmeyer's attorney.

The counts Kilker is speaking of are the ones regarding production and attempted production of child pornography. One of the players admitted to voluntarily sending Broxmeyer two naked pictures of herself and Kilker says this is clear evidence that Broxmeyer was not the instigator. But the jury disagreed.

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Todd Broxmeyer could be almost 80-years-old when he's released from prison. The former field hockey coach from Lisle was sentenced to 40 years at federal court on Thursday.

In September, he was found guilty of charges linked to child pornography and transporting a minor across state lines for the intent of having sex. Broxmeyer had several naked pictures of some of his players and he also had sexual relationships with a few of them.

"He ruined a lot of lives and like the judge indicated, the girls involved here are going to have to live with this the rest of their life and he can sit there for 40 years and think about what he's done," said Broome County Detective Sergeant Jason Ellis.

Broxmeyer's attorney had asked the judge for a lesser sentence of 15 years.
A series of text messages that were not included in the trial were read for the first time in court on Thursday. In them, one victim describes Broxmeyer's inappropriate requests to a teacher at Whitney Point.

The defense argued the victim was joking around in those messages and that Broxmeyer did not force himself on the student. Broxmeyer's lawyer also argued it doesn't make sense that sex with a 17-year-old is legal under New York law, but sexual images are not.

In the end, however, the judge rejected Broxmeyer's request for a lighter sentence and told the now 38-year-old he's to be locked up for four decades.

That is stupid. Also, the teen sent him the pics. Not to stick up for him, since as a coach he shouldn't be fucking his players, but this sentence is really harsh. Baby murders get less.

Even if you take the girl who voluntarily sent pictures to this idiot out of the equation, this guy had sex with several underage girls -- apparently as young as 15 years old. You can't be a coach or teacher and use your students as your own private "love connection."

I'm not upset that he got more time than baby killers, I'm upset that baby killers don't get more time than this pervert.

Plus, it's a Federal sentence... no parole. If he had "just" had sex with her and not had pictures or crossed state lines, he would have probably stayed in state court and seen a lot less time. Not that I care, I'm with Kalehue and think killers should get more time.

The man is a teacher and a coach, in addition to the common sense he should have, school districts, unions, and leagues are pretty specific on this being a "no no". He chose to ignore it.

Since he seemed to think he was "above it all", his sentence should be "above it all", too. Let him sit in prison and do his thinking with the RIGHT body part for a while.
