AURORA, Colo. (Map, News) - Authorities say they're looking for two young girls and their father after the girls' mother was found dead in her home in the Denver suburb of Aurora.
Aurora police haven't released the woman's name or cause of death but say they're investigating the incident as a possible homicide. The woman's body was found at about 10:40 a.m. Tuesday when a friend who hadn't seen her contacted police.
Detective Shannon Lucy said authorities are looking for Brian Carl Patterson, 38, and his daughters, Brianna, 4, and Aliyah, 3. Police say Patterson has lived at the home in the past but it's not clear if he lives there now.
Arapahoe County property records show the home is owned by a Pamela Patterson. And records obtained by KUSA-TV show Pamela Patterson filed for divorce in Arapahoe County in January.
An Amber Alert from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said Brian Patterson has a history of domestic violence and is a person of interest in the woman's death. Police said the alert likely would be extended to all 50 states Tuesday night.
"We are concerned for the welfare of the kids," Lucy said. "Obviously we have a homicide we're working here. We don't know what happened. We have not identified the suspect. What we want to do is find these little girls and make sure they're all right."
Lucy said an autopsy likely will be performed early Wednesday.
Brian Patterson is described as black, 6-foot-2 and 235 pounds. He sometimes goes by the name Kalid Muhammed.
