Veronica Ortiz can't find a sitter - leaves 3 children home alone

Veronica Ortiz was arrested and charged with child abandonment. The first report says the children are in CPS custody; the second says that CPS says the children are not in their custody and must be staying with relatives. Animal control has the pit-bull puppy.

About 10 p.m. last night, a witness found two boys, ages 2 and 3, wandering outside barefoot at an apartment complex at 7222 Fair Oaks Avenue in northeast Dallas.

Dallas police officers arrived and tried to take the kids around the neighborhood to find their apartment, but the boys didn't know where they lived.

Finally, the officers found an apartment with its door left open. Inside, they found a 1-year-old baby, who was sleeping beside a small pit-bull puppy.
The officers found food, garbage and feces all over the floor, police say. But they didn't find any adults. The windows to the apartment were broken and taped together with duct tape.

With help from the leasing office, the officers were able to get in touch with the boys' mother, 21-year-old Veronica Ortiz, by phone about 1 a.m. She told them she had gone to work at a bar. She'd left the boys alone, she said, because she'd been unable to find anybody to care for them. She said she got off work at 2 a.m.

I understand that it must be difficult for someone to raise three children (apparently alone) and also work to support them.

But I just can't comprehend how she thought it was a good idea to leave these children by themselves.

She should never get them back.

OMG, I'm sorry but her children come first 1, 2 and 3 yr. old left alone how the fuck did she think they were going to care for themselves. What the hell was she thinking. I'm just stunned, and as for the condition of the apt. was in Ewwww that's just gross she needs to get off her ass and clean it. Phone in sick, change to a day job so you can access childcare, STOP HAVING KIDS YOU CANT CARE FOR PROPERLY!!!!

God, Im so glad those kids were found by a decent person. And that they didnt wander off into a road, or river or something like that. They are lucky to be alive. I hope and pray they dont get returned to this bitch, and that any future kids she has (and judging by her past form, it wont be long before she is knocked up again!) are taken away from her as soon as they pop out of (what must be) her bucket sized hole!

I do know how hard it is raiseing a child by yourself, it can be damn hard. But not enough to leave them home alone.

There was a recent visit by police at that address over a domestic disturbance call. Veronica was more than likely aware that DSS would be sniffing around in the near future because of that call.

Yeah, her story is obviously bullshit. She went to "work" at a bar, if by "work" she means lifting glasses of booze towards her stupid mouth. She probably had her story concocted just in case DSS came around, as SJ said.

Most places I've lived, bars close at 2. A bartender most likely wouldn't get off work at the exact moment the bar closes, am I wrong?

This is so sad. I'll say it again, this kind of shit is the stuff of my nightmares, reasons I can't sleep at night. You know we only her a fraction of the BS that goes on, and here it is, another one where children, 3 children are left to fend for themselves....geesh, just babies. Just the thought of these little ones alone makes me nauseous and very, very anxious.

I'm glad the wee 1 yr. old was asleep and ironically enough, a pit bull pup kept watch. As much as I don't care for the PB breed, this one didn't attack these kiddos, but played more of a guardian role for the most vulnerable. How could she leave her little ones without a care?....I could never do it, regardless of circumstances. And I can only imagine the plight of a single mom trying to find help, but this, this is just heartless and irresponsible.

I hope she is never allowed to get her children back unless she has proven time and time again to deserve them back. Better stop working the poll woman and get your ass in gear for the right reasons. Otherwise, it won't be long that those who you should treasure the most will only be a distant memory.
