PEABODY, Mass.—Police in Massachusetts say a 22-month old girl suffered serious head injuries when her father accidentally backed his car over her.
Peabody police say the girl was taken to a Boston hospital by ambulance after the accident just before 11 a.m. on Sunday. The girl is expected to survive.
A spokesman for the Essex district attorney's office says the father was about to take the girl to a baby sitter before he went to work and the girl got behind the vehicle. The child's mother was already at work.
The incident remains under investigation by state police and child welfare officials.
The identities of the father and the girl were not released.

3 words:
Back Up Sensors!!!!
These stories break my heart...I cannot imagine the pain of both the children AND the parent....but these accidents can SO be avoided. Please know where your children are at all times.
I KNOW accidents happen....but our awareness of our surroundings.....is essential when we have children! Who was the other adult that was caring for this child? Where was she/he?
Breaks my heart...I will be praying for you little girl.....praying for your entire family....pull through and be well and safe.
And Daddy...please get a car with back up sensors...and dont say you cant afford it....because you cant afford NOT to.
JMO ~sighs~

Why the h*** was she outside the car when he was moving it? You put your child in the car in her car seat first, don't you?

Every time I put my car in reverse I fear a child (or a dog or anything!) will get behind it... especially in parking lots. I usually pull through parking spaces because of this fear.
It happened to a family friend before I was around, but the story remained and they even stopped using their driveway after her death. It's grassed over and they use a gravel one now... we used to drive by it when we still lived there, and mom would retell it. I don't think she ever told the story without misting up... probably sparked my fear, but it is a healthy one I htink.
I'm so glad babe is looking like she'll pull through!

Dear God, I kept telling myself I was NOT going to read this. My dad backed over my little brother Tony when he was 5 killing him. It tore my dad apart. He never got over it.
I am going to pray right now for this little girl and for her father.

What a sad story. I hope that the baby pulls through and does not suffer any long term affects.

That is so sad Peeperann! I can't imagine having to go through something like that.

It really was. It was a complete accident. My dad had checked to see where Tony was, he was playing in the neighbors yard and my dad was just backing his truck out the drive way to turn it around to make it easier to leave for work in the morning.
Tony must have thought my dad was leaving for the store or something and ran directly behind his truck, which had a large camper on it, and the back tire went up over Tony's chest, crushing it. He died right there in my dads arms while my dad was begging him to live and begging for forgiveness.
This was 37 years ago, so no back up sensors back then. I like to think of Tony and my dad and my sister Shirley in heaven together now.
And it's one of the major reason I make sure no one is around when I back out the drive way. I'm so paranoid, that sometimes I get out and check again just to make sure.

A big hug to you Peep as I know you still feel a lot of pain over this.
I too am so paranoid. One rule of thumb is kiddos are always strapped in car seat before I move the car. When neighbor's kid is around and he tends to lurk, I tell him to go back to his yard and sit on the porch. I'd just die if I hit my own or other kid....just couldn't recover from that I think.
They are all together Peep, no doubt, no doubt.

You totally made me cry
I"m sorry, I didn't mean to make anyone cry. Thank you though. And Silva, yes I do still feel lots of pain even after all this time. I just remember my dad begging him to live and begging God.
I just wanted everyone to know that not all parents this happens to are neglectful. My dad was the most loving, nurturing, attentive dad in the world.

No harm no foul honey! How could you have known? And it was 37 years ago, and honestly, if I hadn't been thru it with my own little brother, I would have said exactly the same thing.

It's terrible, but accidents do happen, a friend of mine was backed over by her dad as well in 1972, she was 4, luckily she survived, has a nasty long scar across her forehead but no brain damage or anything, ever since then everyone I know checks behind thier vehicles, the backup beeper thing was a great invention for the vehicles..
