Ohh , how original, the child was left on the couch and later found on the floor, Nice try AssClown. I guess that small fall did all the other damage as well or maybe Gremblins or Pixies did thoughs.
The investigation into how a 10-month-old boy received injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome led to the arrest Saturday of San Jose resident Onesimo Zapien on suspicion of felony child abuse, police said.
The baby, who survived surgery at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, had bleeding to the brain and recent injuries to his head, torso and lower body, according to a police report.
The baby was later flown to a Bay Area hospital in critical condition. He was reported critical but stable on Sunday night.
Salinas officers and an emergency medical crew responded to the 100 block of Nacional Street about 3:45 p.m. after Zapien, 26, called 911 for help, said police Cmdr. Trevor Iida.
Zapien, who was babysitting the child for his girlfriend, a resident of Salinas, was holding the baby in front of the residence when officers arrived.
"The baby was breathing, but it was very lethargic," Iida said. "[The baby] wasn't alert, wasn't responsive."
According to a police report, Zapien said he left the child sleeping on the couch and later found the victim on the ground.
There were no obvious signs of injuries to the child when medical personnel initially treated the baby, but doctors and medical staff at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital said they believed the injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome - a term used to describe the symptoms resulting from violently shaking a child.
Detectives were called in to take over the investigation.
Officers re-contacted Zapien, who provided detectives with details about how he may have injured the child, police said.
Zapien was later arrested on out-of-county outstanding traffic warrants pending further investigation into the baby's injuries, police said.
Zapien's other warrants, all out of Merced, include possession of marijuana, violation of probation, driving with a suspended license and petty theft.
He's now at the county jail with a bail of $66,000.
