Charles Soderman worked as a technical/IT support assistant at the Marathon Mosquito Control Office. He's been fired from that job.
Soderman was arrested in Arizona on one count of travel with intent to engage in sex with a juvenile. The 30-year-old reportedly attempted to travel to Mexico to have sex with underage children.
District spokeswoman Colleen Fitzsimmons said only that Soderman worked as an information technology technician for Mosquito Control and that his position will soon be filled.
"It's an ongoing investigation and we are not at liberty to make any comments," Fitzsimmons said. District Director Ed Fussell was unavailable to comment on Soderman Tuesday.
According to federal court documents, Soderman used the screen name "Chuck S" to contact a federal agent -- Soderman thought the agent actually was the operator of a Mexico sex-tourism business -- in March 2008 via Yahoo instant messaging. Soderman wrote that he had an interest in sex acts with minor-aged children in Mexico.
On July 11, 2008, Soderman allegedly told the undercover agent -- U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Senior Special Agent Henry Johnson -- that he was interested in a child sex tour in September 2008. Then on Feb. 13, Soderman advised the agent that he received a tour application and planned to travel to Mexico March 9 -- just a little over a week ago.
Soderman reportedly indicated a preference for boys ages 6 to 14. He submitted a deposit for the tour via PayPal Feb. 17 and arrived at Yuma International Airport in Arizona March 9.
An agent posing as a driver picked Soderman up at the airport and accepted $600 from him "to spend two nights with a white male between the ages of 6 and 9 years of age." He was arrested shortly thereafter.
Soderman had lubricant, condoms and several children's toys at the time of arrest.
