Kentland - A Wheatfield woman died when her throat was cut with a shovel, and her remains were left in a shallow grave on an abandoned northwest Indiana farm, a prosecutor said.
Twenty-six-year-old Aaron Flynn of Sumava Resorts was being held without bond in Newton County Jail in Kentland on Saturday. He was charged Friday with the murder of 54-year-old Rosalba Silvana "Silvia" Ricchio, his sometimes landlord, who had been reported missing March 11.
"What we believe happened is that they pushed her to the ground and held a shovel to her throat. Someone then stepped on the shovel," said Newton County Prosecutor Ed Barce. "It was a horrible death."
Authorities said Flynn led officers to her grave March 15. Two other men - 30-year-old Chris Henderson and 23-year-old Matthew Henderson - were jailed on charges of assisting a criminal. They were accused of helping Flynn hide Ricchio's body.
All three have pleaded not guilty. Flynn and Matthew Henderson were appointed public defenders. Jail staff had no record of their attorneys' identities.

Ricchio, 54, was reported missing by her family March 11, although police say she had been missing since March 9.
Her body was found Sunday in a shallow grave on abandoned farm property in northern Newton County. Police now believe Ricchio was killed on or near where she was buried.
Newton County Sheriff Don Hartman said the case is being investigated as a homicide. Hartman said it appears that Ricchio died from blunt force trauma to the head and neck.
“We have arrested two suspects for assisting criminal,” Hartman said. “We are charging Flynn with murder and there may be more charges but the investigation is still ongoing.”
Both of the Hendersons were arrested for assisting criminal, while Aaron Flynn, 26, Sumava Resorts, will be arrested for murder.
He was previously arrested in Jasper County on suspicion of criminal confinement for forcing Ricchio out of her home and taking her to Newton County, and forgery and theft after he allegedly took $300 from her bank account.

Sheriff Orville Perry said based on evidence at Ricchio's home, investigators immediately believed Ricchio's disappearance was suspicious.
"Her house was in disarray. One of the phone lines had been pulled out or cut," Perry said. "Things didn't look like they normally would if you left the house voluntarily.
"Another key component was that her two Pomeranians that she basically worshipped ... were locked in a bathroom," Perry said. "Her family and other people in the area said every time she left, she took her dogs."
The sheriff said Ricchio is a native of Chicago and has at least one daughter in that area.
Investigators got their first break in the case on Friday when Flynn was stopped in Newton County driving a 1993 Geo Tracker registered to Ricchio.
Flynn was arrested on suspicion of driving while suspended but later posted bond was released from the Newton County Jail.
That same day, authorities unsuccessfully searched -- using canines, a helicopter and law enforcement officers from multiple departments -- in the Willow Slough area in Newton County.

What a fucking horrific way to go. Hope Aaron Flynn gets his soft insides torn open in prison the way he did to her throat.
Rest in peace Rosalba Silvana. Looks like you will have justice.

Not overly burdened in the smarts department then.
That poor woman died truly horrible death. To be lying there while those bastards pushed down on the shovel to cut her throat. God, that is so sickening. These fuckers should hang for what they did.
