Police said that at 3:43 a.m. Saturday they responded after someone called 911 to report a disturbance in the 500 block of High Street in Middletown. Dispatchers told officers that a woman was yelling in the background when the call was made.

Police said Omar Menns, 30, the former boyfriend of the woman, had kicked in the door to her apartment. Menns, the woman and her current boyfriend began struggling, police said.

Menns assaulted the couple until they were able to force him from the apartment, police said. Patrol officers began searching the area for him.

About an hour later, Menns reappeared – inside the apartment again. He had hid in the apartment and when the woman and her boyfriend were on their way out, he attacked them again, stabbing them with a knife, police said.

Another struggle ensued, the woman hit Menns with a shovel, and he eventually fled.

The boyfriend was taken to Hartford Hospital for serious injuries. The woman was taken to Middlesex Hospital for treatment and was released.

Police are applying for arrest warrants for Menns for the two incidents.

Anyone with information about Menns is encouraged to call the Middletown Police Department's Detective Bureau at 860-344-3200.
