Karissa Paige Boudreau had moved to Bridgewater, N.S., just three months ago to live with her mother and her mother's boyfriend, who police questioned in the hours after official confirmation that the death of the 12-year-old was a homicide.
Police say two people known to the slain girl were arrested on Thursday morning and released yesterday without charges. Sources say that it was Karissa's mother and boyfriend.

Police in Nova Scotia say the mother of 12-year-old Karissa Boudreau has been charged with her daughter's murder, four months after the girl's body was found.
Officials told a news conference held Saturday in Bridgewater that they arrested Penny Boudreau, 33, in Halifax on Friday.
"She will answer to the charge of first-degree murder," said RCMP Supt. Blair McKnight, the officer in charge of criminal investigations in the province.
Bridgewater Police Chief Brent Crowhurst said there are no other suspects wanted in connection with Boudreau's death.
"Investigators feel confident that there is only one person responsible for this homicide," he said. "We do not expect anyone else to be charged in this case."
Penny Boudreau reported her daughter missing on Jan. 27 after she apparently went missing in a supermarket parking lot. On Feb. 9, a passerby found Karissa's frozen body on the nearby banks of the LaHave River.
After an autopsy was performed on Karissa's body, police said they were treating her death as a homicide. They did not release any details about how the girl was killed.

From article ~Absynthe~ linked:
Boudreau and Karissa's father, Paul Boudreau, met in Clark's Harbour, but they split up when the Karissa was very young.
......
Boudreau later married Paul Boudreau's brother Shane, and the couple lived in Newellton, N.S., before moving to the Bridgewater area in 2005, where they later separated.
Yuk! But to each his own... or his brother.

Update:
"Mommy, don't," were the last words Karissa Boudreau spoke as her mother strangled her to death with a piece of twine in the woods outside of Hebbville, N.S.
Her words were read in court Friday morning from an agreed upon statement of facts as Penny Boudreau, 34, pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of her 12-year-old daughter.
The woman wiped away tears as she was led away from Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Bridgewater, N.S. Boudreau was sentenced to life in prison with no parole for 20 years.

parole after 20 years is not fucking life in prison, if you can kill your own child while she begs you not to, what can't you do?
Fucking Canadian "justice" system...

From UCat's link...
Boudreau's common-law spouse, Vernon MacCumber, was not present for the plea, Smith said, adding he had no way of knowing Boudreau would take Karissa's life when he told her shortly before the murder that Boudreau had to choose between keeping Karissa or him.
For a man, she killed her own child; stupid useless twat.
Ok, if you are with someone who has a child from a previous relationship, that child is part & parcel, & you have NO right to try to give that person an ultimatum to choose between you & them. Don't want kids? Don't get involved with a parent. My mom would have kicked his fucking ass for the suggestion; which is most of where I get my own attitude from. I know the guy didn't intend this, but he's still a prick. A huge prick...
Oh and the comments on that article's page are incredibly annoying.

That really isn't enough time. How could she? Wait till Silva sees this, I will have to sedate her. And I totally agree with the above. If you don't like other peoples kids don't date parents. I don't. It is very simple.

The mother gives life to this beautiful child, raises her then one day decides to kill her because she's inconvenient??? For what? a worthless man, the piece of shit who tells her to make a choice....the mother even considering that option, and killing her is a useless, pathetic, fetid soul.
There is no understanding how a mother puts aside 12 years of memories. The hugs and kisses, first moments of life, the first time this child called her mommy, to then kill her with her own hands and hear the life leave her body....dear, child, the anguish must have been unbearable . Even the desperate words of mercy would not move her... Oh, my, God, the horror of that moment is beyond recognition. This was not a newborn babe who would never know her killer as her mother, but a young girl of 12 who looked into her mother's eyes, and saw the vacant cold eyes of a monster.
"Mommy, don't." Penny Boudreau, may those words haunt you, to play ceaselessly, as a torment to your dark soul, to play to a heart that grew selfish and a mind that is vacant without morals. May your body that once bore life to this child be riddled with sickness and misery, for that alone, will not pay the price...Hell will wait.
At Karissa's funeral, Rev. Perry Ingersoll had praised her friendly personality, "winning smile" and love for animals.
Lovely child, my sorrow for you that you knew not that a true mother could never harm her own...be at peace now and light up the heavens with your "winning smile".
