Following the discovery of two children with two broken arms, prosecutors have charged a 42-year-old day care worker with two counts of physical abuse of a child.
One night in late January, Shamilla Sanders said she knew something just wasn't right with her 4-month-old son, Perrion.
"All through the night I'm noticing that he's crying and whining and everything like that. Something (was) wrong with my baby. I'm thinking he teething, probably be sleepy, so I feed him a bottle," Sanders said. "When I touched his arm, he just start crying."
She took the baby to the doctor, who took X-rays and found a broken arm. Sanders said police were soon targeting her.
"Then they came out here and told me they wanted to take a lie detector test," Sanders said.
But before she could take the test, the investigation turned to the Alphabet Day Care Center. A second family reported a child with a broken arm.
Police arrested Pamela Coleman, saying she confessed, saying she hurt Perrion because he constantly wanted to be held and she felt "stressed out" because she was taking care of 11 other children.
Police said, "She stated that when she squeezed the baby's arms and twisted them she did it for the purpose of inflicting pain and 'sending a message' to the child."
"We don't have any comments at this time," a staffer at Alphabet Day Care told 12 News reporter Colleen Henry.
"She said she stood him up in front of her, and twisted his arm and twisted his leg, and he didn't cry, she said that, and she said she did it to teach him a lesson," Shamilla Sanders said.
Perrion spent the month of February with his tiny arm in a cast. His great-grandmother worries it caused development problems.
"He's not crawling. He's not holding his bottle. He's going to be 7 months old on the 2nd. We don't know if she did permanent damage to him or what," Mary Sanders said.
Late Monday afternoon, the Alphabet Day Care issued a written statement, saying Coleman had worked there for just 27 days and had come highly recommended, but was immediately suspended.
"Our center has been open for 18 years. We strive to provide the highest degree of care, safety and love, and our entire organization is stunned. We share the pain and hurt that such an incident brings to the good day care operators."
Coleman is suspended while the investigation continues.
If convicted of abusing both children, she could spend up to six years in prison.

Okay, why was she in charge of 11 infants? I am fairly certain that is over ratio in every state in this country. I am so glad my baby does not have to be in daycare anymore. When I first put her in one at 12 weeks old, I thought I did good by choosing one with cameras. I had a regular monitor and my laptop at work so I kept one open all day. I wrote down everytime they fed her, changed her, and held her for two days to see if it matched the paper they gave me. I watched how they interacted with the babies. All these stupid people did was shuffle the babies around from swing to bouncy chair to crib. They had little human interaction. I made a surpise visit and my daughter was screaming her head of in her crib with a blowout diaper while the caregivers sat on their asses chit chatting. She never went back.
I ended up putting her where my older 2 children went after my sister watched her in my home for a few months. My daughter needed to be held almost constantly. Anyhow, at the second daycare, they were awesome(My older two children had been going there for a couple of years, but I was not comfortable with one of the workers in the baby room when I visited. The director first removed her from the baby room based on my concerns and then fired her.) They used an infant carrier for the babies that needed constant attention. They swaddled her even at 5 months so she would feel safe and secure when she slept. When I go back to work, all my children will return there again.

This is heartbreaking. I would literally kill this bitch if I was a parent of a child with broken bones. I would be in jail just like that! Thank god I don't let my kids go to daycare because I need to stay outta jail to raise them!

Definitely heartbreaking. These innocent little children trust us to take care of them and keep them safe. Horrible to be a good parent and find out later that you've delivered your child every morning into the hands of an abuser. I'm sure these parents are just *sick.* This was one of my worst nightmares when my children were little. I can't imagine being one of these parents. Especially the one they were ready to polygraph. I'm just glad they figured out who the real abuser was before they put those families through that.
I'm sick, too, that this woman only faces 6 years for breaking the bones of two innocent children and abusing who knows how many others. What's wrong with her -- sending "messages" and teaching "lessons" about keeping quiet to a 4-month old? You moron. That's how they communicate to you that they need something at that age.
And by the way....no one was forcing you to work there. If babies stress you out, find another job witch. And the Day Care Center has "suspended" her while the investigation continues? How much more proof do they need that she's not fit to work around children???

Pamela A. Gatlin, 42, who worked at the Alphabet Learning Center in Milwaukee, has been charged with two counts of causing bodily harm to children.
According to a criminal complaint, Gatlin said in an interview with police that she grabbed and twisted the arms of a 4-month-old child in January. Gatlin told police she was stressed out because the child wanted to be held and she was juggling taking care of 11 other children at the care center. The child ended up with a broken arm, the complaint says.
Gatlin also told police she pulled the arms of a 21-month-old in February who ignored her when the child was told to wash her hands while in the bathroom, according to the complaint. That child later had a spiral fracture to the left arm, the complaint says.
Guess what? If you are frustrated by children, perhaps you should consider NOT working in a day care.

And then where would all the black woman in Milwaukee "work"?
After all they need the "jobs" in order to scam the State for their child care benefits.....

Although it is not specifically stated that this woman is involved in the child care scam, I was wondering that myself.

I merged the two stories because they are the same...just a different last name for the day care worker. Weird.

No Shit, My daughter works at a daycare center, and the owner is a cheap ass bitch, my daughter has 14 toddlers to care for, she has told the administrator that it is just too much for 1 person to care for, but owner states she can't afford to hire more people, but when state does inspection she hires family members to fill in!!

She was trying to "send a message" to a 4 month old infant!! Did she the an infant that young could possibly understand any message brought about by massive pain????
Fucking Bitch Cunt!! Can I break her arms? Pretty please, with sugar and candy on top??? Because I will, and then maybe i'll break her ugly ass neck as a bonus!!

of course that's always a way to get around the regulations, but when i had my daughter in day care, it was a center i really felt comfortable leaving her. in addition, my hours were extremely irregular, so i frequently showed up unexpectedly. i always found her well cared for and attended to.
the main advice i'd give to parents is the unexpected drop in and see what's up.

Yep, I would check on the baby sometime between 12-2 depending on when I took my lunch about once a week and my bf would drop in whenever he was nearby at random times. There was another girl at my work who had twins right around when I had my daughter. She was having issues with the way the babies were acting at home. I asked her if she ever dropped in and she said she didn't have the time? I know she did because their daycare was not that far from where my child was at. It might have meant that's all she could do for lunch, but who cares? If I wouldn't have dropped in to the 1st daycare she went to I would have never known they left her sitting in shit, screaming while they sat there doing nothing.
