A 2-year-old Kansas City boy has suffered two broken arms, a dislocated shoulder, severe head bruises and damage to his liver, pancreas, kidneys in apparent abuse, according to police.

Officers say the abuse was discovered at a hospital early Monday morning, where the boy’s father had taken him just before 2:30 a.m., after discovering the injuries when he returned home from work.

The father reportedly left the boy and two other children with his girlfriend at their home in the 9800 block of Wallace Avenue.

Police say the girlfriend, Vernessa Peppars, was charged with assault in the first degree.

She is being held on $250,000 cash only bond. Additional charges are expected.

The boy also required stitches to his lip and had abrasions and scratches all over his body, some indicating the boy had been pinched.

Police say this isn't the first time the boy has been injured.

He was taken to a hospital in January for two punctures to the back of his head caused by an electrical plug. (WTF???)

Police couldn't talk to the young boy because he was unconscious in the hospital due to the amount of pain medication he was on. He suffered two broken arms, a dislocated shoulder, punctures that are consistent with an electrical plug, and damage to his liver, pancreas, and kidneys and other cuts and bruises.

Police said the boy's father was at work and he was being watched by his father's girlfriend, Vanessa Peppers, 30, on Monday (March 16, 2009). Peppers faces charges of first degree assault.

According to the police report, Peppers called the father while watching the boy and complained that she couldn't handle the child any more. The father sent the boy's grandmother over to help while he was at work.

When the grandmother arrived, she said she thought something was wrong when the boy didn't lift his arms to take an apple she brought him. But, she said she didn't see any signs of injury.

Later, when the father arrived home, he realized the boy needed to go to the hospital because he was complaining of pain in both arms. It was a social worker at the hospital who eventually called police.

Injuries described in the police report include a cut inside the toddler's upper lip that would require stitches and plastic surgery, broken arms, abrasions that indicate he may have been pinched in the upper chest and other areas, including the scrotum. Also, damage to the boy's liver, pancreas and kidneys, consistent with blunt-force trauma to the stomach, according to the police report.

According to Kansas City Police, the woman (who is originally from the community of Gros Islet in St Lucia) was watching her boyfriend’s two-year-old son Monday while he was at work when she allegedly assaulted the child as punishment for going outside.
