SCRANTON -- Investigators will question a person of interest in connection with a South Scranton shooting that wounded two people, city police said today.
The man is a former Scranton resident, Joseph B. Olecki, who was arrested earlier today by police in the Altoona area on charges that he shot up his girlfriend's home there Saturday.
According to The Times-Tribune archives, Mr. Olecki lived in the early 1990s at 526 Beech St., Scranton. That is next door to the home where the couple were shot.
Detective Capt. Al Leoncini said police are still collecting evidence and doing follow-up interviews after the shooting Sunday evening at 528 Beech St.
Michael Ross and his wife, Lindsey, were hit as they stood on their back deck by an assailant who fired four shots at them from Rink Place, the alley behind the home. Police had no updates on their conditions this morning but previously said their injuries were not life-threatening.
Capt. Leoncini said police have a person of interest in the case but declined to elaborate. He also would not discuss the type of weapon police believe was used in the shooting or a possible motive.
Patrol vehicles remained parked outside the two-story home this morning, and the property remained cordoned off with police tape.
Mr. Olecki is accused of riddling his ex-girlfriend's Logan Twp. home with 21 shots from an assault rifle. Logan Twp. police said 33-year-old Joseph Olecki was arrested about 11 a.m. in the Altoona area. He had been the subject of an East Coast bulletin by police, who called him armed and very dangerous.
Police in Logan Twp., about 85 miles east of Pittsburgh, say Mr. Olecki shot up the woman's home after she ended their 10-year-relationship about 10 p.m. Saturday night.
Mr. Olecki faces attempted homicide and other charges. Court papers say he had six stolen assault rifles with him and told the woman he planned to "take out as many people as possible" before he was caught.
