WOONSOCKET, R.I. - A Woonsocket man is headed to court to
face charges that he fatally stabbed his live-in girlfriend.
Authorities say David Leite is being arraigned Monday in
District Court in Providence on one charge of first-degree murder.
The 33-year-old Leite is charged with fatally stabbing
Melissa Perry, 32, in the apartment they shared on Ormond Street.
Her body was found by police on Saturday after Leite was involved in a car
crash in Lincoln. She may have been there as long as 48 hours.
Police say Leite’s behavior at the scene of the crash drew
suspicion. He was treated at a hospital for minor injuries.

WOONSOCKET -- Hours after a car struck a tree in Lincoln Saturday morning, the driver was charged with fatally stabbing a woman with whom he lived in a tenement in the city.
David Leite, 33, was charged with domestic first-degree murder in the death of Melissa Perry, 32, in the third-floor apartment they shared at 33 Ormond St.
When Lincoln officers responded about 9:40 a.m. to the crash scene on Louisquisset Pike, said Woonsocket police Lt. Eugene Jalette, they “obtained information of a possible deceased female” at the Ormond Street address. It appeared that Perry had been slain within the previous 48 hours, Jalette said.
Saturday night, after being treated at a hospital for minor injuries, Leite was brought before a bail commissioner who ordered him held at the Adult Correctional Institutions pending an appearance today in District Court, Providence, the police said.
