34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a Friday night incident that left a 15-year-old boy hospitalized in critical condition, Springfield police said.

The victim, who has not been identified, was found unconscious in the street on MacArthur Boulevard, just south of North Grand Avenue.

Charles Turner, whose address was not given, was arrested early Saturday and is being held at the Sangamon County Jail on possible charges of reckless conduct, reckless driving and aggravated battery, according to police.

Authorities have not released details surrounding how they believe the 15-year-old was injured, though Springfield police Lt. Ken Winslow said Saturday, “We don’t believe it to be an accident.”

Police also are looking for a second man who might have been involved, Winslow said. He is described as black, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 150 to 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a baseball hat and a black leather coat and was at a nearby business just before the teen was injured.

Emergency agencies were notified about 8:30 p.m. Friday that the teen was lying in the roadway. Police questioned bystanders in trying to determine if he was stuck by a vehicle or possibly fell from a moving vehicle.
