Old Saybrook - An out-of-town 32-year-old mother was arrested on a warrant Monday for stealing between $3,000 and $4,000 worth of baby formula last summer, police Deputy Chief Michael Spera said Wednesday.
Cari Kruzel, of 75 Deep River Road, Centerbrook, allegedly stole baby formula from the Old Saybrook Stop & Shop over several months starting on July 22, Spera said. Kruzel turned herself in to Old Saybrook police Monday and was charged with second-degree larceny.
”The first few times she stole the baby formula, it was for her son's use,” Spera said.
Kruzel then turned to the Internet and allegedly began selling the formula on eBay, Spera said. The investigation took some time to complete because of the far-reaching nature of the online sales, he said.
