Shameka Taylor, 28, of St. Louis, went to the Hazelwood Police Department at 12:15 p.m. today, said Police Capt. Gregg E. Hall. Her son, Cortez Bass, has been in the custody of authorities since he was found alone by workers at the mall in Hazelwood about 9:15 p.m. Saturday night.
Taylor was arrested on charges of first-degree child abandonment, a fugitive felony probation violation stemming from St. Louis city and fugitive felony stealing charges with the St. Louis County Police Department.
Taylor is in the Hazelwood jail.
Cortez is in the custody of the St. Louis County Division of Family Services.
