http://i44.tinypic.com/4vjrzm.jpgThe clerk at the Holiday Inn Express noticed that a man in a pickup parked behind the hotel had been there for more than an hour and wondered what he was doing.
On Friday, the answer became clear when a Hernando County deputy arrested the man, Daniel R. Staats, on 96 counts of possession of child pornography.
The arrest reports show that Staats, 44, had been in the truck on Dec. 9 when a deputy summoned by the clerk approached his truck. Staats had a Sony PlayStation Portable hand-held gaming device, which he said he was using to access the hotel's wireless Internet service.
He told Deputy William Cooper that he had been looking at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union Web site and that he was outside the hotel because he did not have Internet access at home.
The deputy sent the device to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement laboratory in Tampa for processing.
Cooper reviewed the evidence and found hundreds of pornographic images saved on a memory card in the device, the report states. Of these, 96 were of children engaged in sexual activity, many having sex with adults.
Staats was arrested at his home and taken to the county jail. He was also held on a charge of unauthorized access to a computer network.http://www.tampabay.com/news/publicsafety/crime/article982527.ece
He should have booked a room.
