The Mesa Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a missing 2-year-old boy and a 38-year-old man.
Police said early Thursday morning Todd Michael Spurgeon left with his girlfriend's 2-year-old son Brycen Vangurp. Spurgeon should have returned with the child by 10 a.m., but failed to do so, according to investigators.
Spurgeon may be using methamphetamines and is displaying signs of paranoia, according to Sgt. Ed Wessing of the Mesa Police Department.
Investigators believe Vangurp, whose nickname is "Buggy," may be at risk.
Vangurp is described as a white 2-year-old boy with blonde hair and blue eyes. He is 32 inches tall and weighs 48 pounds. The 2-year-old boy has an obvious dog bit to his upper lip and a scar on his forehead. He was last seen wearing a dirty t-shirt of an unknown color, navy blue sweatpants with a gray stripe.
Spurgeon is described as a white 38-year-old man with brown, nearly shaved hair and brown eyes. He's 6 foot 3 inches tall, has a thin build and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black jeans, and a NASCAR baseball cap with flames. He has a tattoo on his right arm with the initials "T.S.," and a tattoo of a rebel flag on his lower back. He was driving a purple 1996 Suzuki Swift 2-door hatchback with Arizona license plate AEK9609.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Vangurp or Spurgeon, or information that may help detectives, is urged to contact the Mesa Police Department's Missing Person's Unit at 480-644-2211. t
