MENASHA — A man who hit an 11-year-old girl walking home from school Monday and left the scene has been charged with hit-and-run driving.
Police Lt. Chuck Sahr said Robert J. Conlon Jr., 41, has been cited for hit-and-run causing injury, a criminal traffic charge.
Conlon is scheduled to appear in Winnebago County Court at 9 a.m. April 19.
Sahr said the man called police Monday night after seeing news reports of the hit-and-run.
The girl was hit as she crossed Sixth Street, coming from Butte des Morts School, about 3:20 p.m.
Police said she apparently walked the five or six blocks to her home and was taken to a hospital by her parents.
Sahr said Tuesday police have talked to the girl and she is recovering at home.
He said Conlon said he was aware he struck the girl but didn't think she was injured.
