A woman has been charged with child neglect after police reported finding her at a bar while her four young children were home alone.
An officer found Prairie Swifthawk, 27, at Ye Olde Tavern in Devils Lake on the evening of Feb. 11, a court document states.
The court complaint says Swifthawk left her children, ages 8, 6, 5 and 2, at home by themselves for more than two hours.
Swifthawk appeared in court Monday on the Class C felony charge. She has posted bond and is not in custody, said Ramsey County State’s Attorney Lonnie Olson.
Olson said there is not a particular age that demands a parent’s presence.
“It’s really not a set age by law,” he said. “It’s based upon the child and the circumstances.”
As an example, he said that in some cases, a responsible 10-year-old can be left at home, while a developmentally delayed 13-year-old cannot.http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/108911/
She probably would have been gone longer if the cops hadn't tracked her down. Wonder why they went looking for her.
