A 22-year-old North Platte woman was charged with second-degree assault Monday after hitting her boyfriend with a spiked club.
Sarah D. Watts, 1211 E. Fourth No. 25, was fighting with her boyfriend at 2:15 a.m. early Saturday morning, according to a police spokesman. The pair had been out drinking at a local bar.
The spokesman said the pair returned to their room at Elms Lodge when they got into an argument over the boyfriend’s ex-wife, according to the spokesman. Watts went outside the apartment to smoke a cigarette, the spokesman said, and the boyfriend locked her out.
The spokesman said Watts became enraged and she began banging on the door demanding to be let in. Watts then picked up a club with a spike in and broke in the door, the spokesman said. She then rushed her boyfriend and swung the club wildly.
The spokesman said the boyfriend tried to block the club and was stabbed by the spike. The boyfriend suffered minor cuts and bruises but refused medical treatment.
Officers arrested Watts for second-degree domestic assault with a deadly weapon. She could face a maximum five-years imprisonment, a $10,000 fine or both if convicted.
