Police allege a man trusted with his friends' young daughter raped and molested the child, court documents state.
Brandon K. Miller, 25, of the 2600 block of Oberlin Drive in Manchester Township, was charged with more than 70 sexual offenses involving the child, who was under 6, by Hellam Township Police.
Miller waived his preliminary hearing in January. He could not be reached for comment today.
According to court documents, police began investigating Miller after the girl's mother took her to the hospital to be examined.
Authorities found evidence they said indicated the girl was abused and then interviewed the now-kindergartner. The girl told police, "Daddy's friend did bad things to me."
In interviews, the girl said Miller had touched her private parts when she was 3, 4 and 5 years old. The alleged assaults often happened in her family's home in Hellam Township.
On Aug. 23, the girl was downstairs watching television with Miller around 2 a.m. Police allege Miller turned the TV and lights off before telling the girl to take off her clothes.
According to court documents, Miller molested the girl before raping her. The girl heard her mother coming downstairs. She put her clothes on under a blanket and laid down on her back, police said.
Her mother had been upstairs in a bedroom and came down with her laptop to show Miller something.
She told police she was nervous because it was dark and used her laptop to light her way. She heard a commotion, then saw her daughter rolling off the sofa and pulling up her pants.
The girl's mother took her upstairs and asked her if anyone had touched her private parts. At first, the girl said "no." Then, she sobbed and told her mother Miller touched her and that it had happened before, police said.
Her mother confronted Miller. Before leaving their home, he said he didn't do anything.
She quizzed her daughter again, asking her what Miller had used to touch her. The girl replied,
"not his hand, mom. You should know what part it was," according to court documents.
Her mother noticed marks on the child and took her to Memorial Hospital for an examination. After investigators interviewed the child, who is now 6, charges were filed against Miller Dec. 1.
Police allege Miller molested and raped his friend's daughter many times, performed oral sex on the girl and tried to get her to do it to him. The girl told authorities she knew what was happening was "bad," and she didn't tell because she did not want to get in trouble.
