NEW ORLEANS, LA -- The New Orleans Police Department said it is investigating a shooting that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy Thursday.
Terrell Riley, 16, who lives with his mother in Texas, was visiting New Orleans for Mardi Gras, WDSU NewsChannel 6 reported.
Police said the shooting occurred at about 7 a.m. on the 10000 block of Castlewood Drive.
Investigators said Seventh District officers responded to a call of a "male down" and upon arrival, located the victim lying on the ground, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Currently, investigators are gathering evidence and information to determine the motive as well as the person(s) responsible.
Crimestoppers is offering up to a $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of those responsible for the shooting.
Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111. Callers do not have to leave their name nor testify in court to receive the reward.
