A Chandler couple is in jail on child abuse charges after the man injured the woman’s 17-month-old daughter by slamming her into a playpen, police said.

Sgt. Joe Favazzo, Chandler police spokesman, said Michael Charles Yettner, 30, knocked the child unconscious Sunday and then he and April Dawn Porter, 21, spent about five minutes trying to revive her with cold towels and shaking.

He slammed the girl down to quiet her crying, Favazzo said. When the child, McKenzie LeMaster, regained consciousness, she began vomiting.

Instead of calling paramedics or taking the child to the emergency room, the couple stopped by Yettner’s mother’s home to drop off his 4-year-old child before going to the hospital.

“When they got to the hospital they told the staff the child had fallen,” Favazzo said. Doctors and nurses called police because the injuries weren’t consistent with a fall, however.

She suffered bleeding to her brain, court records show.

McKenzie was released from the hospital and is now in care of the state.

Yettner and Porter met on the Internet and Porter moved to Chandler from Kansas five months ago to be with him, according to Favazzo and court records.

According to court records, Yettner and Porter eventually confessed to the crime after their arrests.

“April admitted that they both came up with the story to tell medical staff and any other authorities,” courts records state. “April stated that she protected Michael because he was all of the family that she had and she wanted to stay with him.” Stupid Cunt!

April Dawn Porter, 21, and Michael Charles Yettner, 30

Jesus, there both freaking Tards and belong nowere around ANY!! children. How many strikes do they fucking need to put these 2 away for fucks sake???

Chandler police arrested a mother and a man on Wednesday afternoon for their suspected involvement in the abuse of her 17-month-old daughter. April Dawn Porter, 21, and Michael Charles Yettner, 30, were arrested at a home near McClintock Drive and Ray Road at approximately 4 p.m.

Officers responded to a Chandler hospital on Sunday at about 5:53 p.m. when a social worker for the hospital reported possible child abuse.

The hospital staff was apparently told that the baby had fallen and was unconscious for a short time. Initial medical tests determined that the baby suffered from a subdural hematoma.

The girl was then transferred to St. Joseph's hospital in Phoenix for advanced treatment, according to police.

A detective responded to the hospital and reportedly learned that both Yettner and Porter, who had also responded, provided conflicting information regarding the injury to the medical staff at both hospitals.

Yettner and Porter were interviewed and apparently provided different versions of how the girl was injured and the attempted recovery efforts to revive the baby.

Officials said both Yettner and Porter stated that they used their cell phones to call family members while the girl was unconscious to make arrangements for child care of Yettner's 4-year-old child and for medical advice.

No emergency medical services were activated by either adult, according to officials.

A consent search of the apartment was made with Yettner and Porter present. The search encompassed photographs of the scene and the step stool that was reported to be the object involved in the baby’s fall.

On Monday, a forensic interview was reportedly conducted with Yettner's four-year-old daughter, who was present during the time that the baby was injured. She apparently disclosed that the baby had fallen from her bed that was located in the master bedroom closet.

On Tuesday a meeting was conducted with a forensic pediatrician with Child Help who reported that she had examined the baby and interviewed Yettner and Porter on Monday. She apparently said that both had reported being the only ones with the baby in the apartment.

She reportedly had discovered five impact injuries on the baby's head, including on the mouth, the lower right chin, the right cheek, the forehead above the right eye, and the back of the head behind the right ear.

The radiograph scan of the baby's head showed a mid-line subdural hematoma towards the front of the head, according to the report.

According to the doctor, the injuries that she observed were not consistent with the claimed mechanism of injury from the parents and were more indicative of abuse. She also indicated that the baby was developmentally delayed, as she still required assistance to stand and walk at the age of 17 months.

A detective reportedly learned from family members that Porter had recently moved from Kansas, where she left a 2 ½-year-old child behind with family and had also suffered the loss of a 1 ½-month-old son in 2005 from uncontrolled bleeding in the brain.

It was also learned that the girl was treated in Kansas for a head injury from a claimed fall from a vehicle.

There was also no current doctor being used by Porter for the baby.

Officials said Yettner has also been the subject of an investigation with Arizona Child Protective Services where he was reported to be pulling the baby hard several times by the arm in a public place.

On Wednesday, Yettner's mother reported that she had talked with Yettner and Porter on Tuesday and said they admitted that the information told to the police about the baby was not true.

Porter apparently first stated, "Michael did it,” but would not provide any clarification. Porter then stated that she fell with the baby and they hit the playpen.

When the mother talked with Yettner and asked him to tell the truth, Michael reportedly replied, "Whatever April said is what happened."

Yettner apparently said that he had been told by friends to not talk with the police and he would take that advice.

On Wednesday, Porter’s grandfather told officials he was caring for her surviving son and reportedly stated that he did not believe that she was capable of taking care of both children when she moved to Arizona.

Officials said he stated that she "has a temper and is pretty hot headed” and had failed to provide any legal documentation for him to take care of her son for the five months that April has been in Arizona.

On Wednesday, officials said a search warrant was served at a Chandler location to find additional evidence as a result of the new information.

Officials said they were taken into custody and transported to the Chandler police department where they were interviewed.

Porter reportedly confessed to knowing that Yettner had thrown the baby to the bottom of the playpen out of frustration and that the baby had been "fussy" all day.

Officials said she informed them that Yettner brought the unconscious baby to her and confessed what happened.

She reportedly admitted that they both came up with the story to tell medical staff and any other authorities in the ride to the hospital and stated that she protected Yettner because he was all of the family that she had and she wanted to stay with him. ( excuse me while I throw up!!!)

Police said Yettner admitted to being frustrated with the baby and threw her hard to the bottom of the playpen that was in the closet to get her to be quiet.

Yettner described that the baby bounced from the bottom of the playpen and landed in an odd position, according to police.

Yettner reportedly realized that she was unconscious. He also apparently admitted to conspiring with Porter to create the cover story as to how the baby was injured while driving to the hospital.

Police said the baby was treated for head injuries, released from the hospital, and placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Yettner and Porter were held at the Maricopa County 4th Avenue jail on one charge each of child abuse, according to police.

Additional charges are reportedly being considered as the investigation continues

Just what the fuck is going on here? Why was that girl left with her, given all the shit that has gone on in the past?

The argument for enforced sterilisation for baby-battering whores like this is getting stronger by the day!

Geez, these 2 just piss me off bad. Poor little thing.

A Chandler couple was arrested Wednesday, three days after police say the man picked up his girlfriend's screaming toddler and slammed her to the floor inside a play pen, knocking her unconscious.

Police say the mother then tried to revive the girl by using cold rags and shaking her. After 5 to 10 minutes, the child came to and began throwing up, said Sgt. Joe Favazzo, a Chandler police spokesman. Often, he said, the girl's mother would give her a bottle and lock the child in a dark closet to calm her down.

Before taking the girl to the hospital, Yettner dropped his four-year-old off at his mother's house.

The couple met online about seven months ago, and two months later Porter moved to Arizona to live with Yettner, Favazzo said.

Yes because holding and comforting a baby won't work. You need to lock them up alone and in the dark. I am fucking sick to my stomach. Something is going on with these kids, and ITA w/PP who stated they need to review the death of the son and the head injury cases of the older kid. This bitch is a shaker, plain and simple.
