Troopers this morning identified 46-year-old Christopher Calandrella as the man decapitated by a semi-tractor-trailer last week.

Florida Highway Patrol records show a vehicle struck Calandrella, of Orlando, at West Colonial Drive and Hiawassee Road on Feb. 26. After the first impact, a tractor-trailer struck him while he was on the roadway.

Sgt. Kim Miller of the FHP said investigators used fingerprints to identify him.

FHP troopers stopped at least six tractor-trailers matching the description of the vehicle that killed Calandrella.

Reports show Calandrella was walking across West Colonial Drive at 3 a.m. when Antoinette Whitley, 20, of Orlando, struck him with her Nissan Altima.

Whitley pulled her vehicle off the roadway to check on the pedestrian. Seconds later, a tractor-trailer drove along the roadway and struck Calandrella, decapitating him, Miller said.

The driver of the semi did not stop. Witnesses described the vehicle as a newer, white semi with stripes and "Star" written on the back of the trailer.http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/orl-bk-semi-decapitates-man-030309,0,1827053.story

It was 3 am, I wonder if he thought he hit a deer?
God I hope he just didn't hit someone and knowingly leave the scene.
It always freaks me out when someone was nearly killed and survives only to be taken out within minutes by some freak accident. Like medi-vacs crashing.

But the woman had just hit him and got out her car and checked on him and I guess the truck then hit him.

Second sooner and she would have been hit as well. Very freaky.
I can't imagine the horror she experienced.

His demise reminds me of Final Destination.
Like that woman who was crawling on the highway that was featured on here. Or a few years back on 95 in DC a woman was thrown from a moving vehicle and dragged her broken body to the side without being killed. Medic-vac was moving her from the Rest Stop and crashed -all died.

http://i40.tinypic.com/23mmtqo.jpgThe man decapitated by a tractor-trailer in a west Orange County neighborhood last week was a registered sex offender living as a transient in Central Florida.
[...]
Records at the Skagit County Superior Court in Washington showed Calandrella was convicted of molesting a 14-year-old girl in 1994.

He also was convicted that same year of third-degree assault after a boy accused him of attacking his mother.

Calandrella served a sentence of nearly two years in a Washington state prison.

Police records in Jackson, Wyo. show officers had a warrant for his arrest in 2008 for failing to register as a sex offender.

His last known address was Duval County, where he lived as a transient, according to the latest information on the Florida sex-offender database.

FHP investigators are not sure what he was doing in the west Orange County neighborhood the day he died.

Karma?
Too bad karma had to use the poor woman that struck him in the first place.
