Pete Hafer was apparently so dissatisfied with his court appointed attorney that he asked for a new one in open court. After the judge denied his request, Hafer decided it was a grand idea to beat the crap out of his current one.

Mixed feelings on this one...I mean, the guy isn't that intelligent, and if he feels he is not being accurately, or capably represented by his court appointed attorney...what's he to do but to fall back on what most un-intelligent criminals do?

Not defending the guy's actions, but I understand them. Face it, had the guy had money and a nice attorney, he wouldn't even be in court. He may realize this and gotten frustrated.

“As a public defender, a majority of my clients are mentally ill or have mental illness,” a heavily bruised Doug Crickmer told TODAY co-host Meredith Vieira on Thursday. “In Mr.[Peter] Hafer’s case, I certainly don’t fault him or blame him or wish him any ill will.”

but I will press charges....

Guy was smart enough to realize court was where to get results at least.

I like this part;

Hafer’s mother told Barnes that her son might have bipolar disorder,

March 3 - Hafer was sentenced to six months in prison for the attack.

In court, a handcuffed Hafer, with a new attorney, told Judge Robert Johnson that he was sorry for what he did and that he didn't mean to disrespect the court. However, Johnson wasn't having any of it, and sentenced Hafer to six months in prison.

Hafer was originally charged with burglary for breaking into the Georgetown K-Mart. If he's convicted on that charge, the judge made it clear that the sentence for the contempt would not run concurrent to any future sentence.

Hafer is due back in court on May 5.
