"This is definitely a horrific case of animal cruelty," Falconer said. "The cause of death was determined by our veterinarian that the dog had been shot and run over."
Dennis Gonyaw, 33, of Brownington, apparently shot the dog because it was harassing his livestock, Falconer said.
Police said Gonyaw stalked the 11-month-old husky off his property and continued to hunt it down even after another neighbor attempted to calm the animal.
"He had actually hunted the dog down after the neighbor picked the dog up and restrained the dog," Falconer said.
Police said Gonyaw's wife, Liza, also got into an argument with several neighbors, and allegedly waived a rifle in their direction.
Liza Gonyaw has been charged with reckless endangerment, police said.
