ST. AMANT — A St. Amant woman was arrested Friday after authorities found her ex-husband dead from a suspected drug overdose, Ascension Parish Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said in a news release.
Authorities were called to Rosewood Plantation Apartments on La. 431 in St. Amant to investigate a possible drug overdose and found the dead body of Cassidy John Curtis Vicknair, 29, originally from Reserve, Bacala said.
Investigators located heroin, syringes, nee; womadles and a firearm in addition to prescription medicine, Bacala added.
He said Vicknair’s former wife, Regina Vicknair White Lagrange, 30, 10254 La. 431, and her 5-year-old daughter, were present in the apartment when deputies arrived.
Lagrange told investigators that she and Vicknair had shot heroin intravenously during the night while her daughter was in the apartment, Bacala said.
An autopsy of Vicknair is planned.
Lagrange was booked into the Ascension Parish jail on counts of child desertion, illegal possession of illegal drugs in the presence of a person younger than 17, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and illegal carrying of a weapon.
The state Office of Community Services took custody of the child.
