St. Petersburg man accused of abusing infant daughter
ST. PETERSBURG -- A 27-year-old man is accused of aggravated child abuse against his infant daughter. Police say Jackie Ray Hollomon's 1-month-old daughter suffered severe head injuries Tuesday, and he did nothing about it for an hour even though he knew she was hurt.
Hollomon said he dropped the baby, but police say the baby's injuries are more severe than that.
The infant had extensive bruising on the left side of her face, a skull fracture and multiple blood vessel ruptures just outside the brain, police said.
Holloman told police he he dropped his child on the floor while she was in his care. Holloman also said he realized she was seriously injured, but waited an hour before contacting the baby's mother or calling for medical help, police said.
A Child Protection Team doctor concluded the baby's injuries were the result of "physical abuse."
The hemorrhaging the baby suffered can lead to stroke or other medical problems. Survivors can be left with neurological or cognitive problems. The baby's condition was unknown Saturday.
Holloman, 27, was arrested Friday and is at the Pinellas County jail in lieu of $30,000 bail.
