A convicted murderer and child molester was arrested on charges that for months he sexually molested five young girls who his longtime girlfriend babysat.

Sheriff's officials say Marcus Blanchard, 54, fondled the girls, who ranged in age from 5 to 10, and had sex with a 7-year-old.

The alleged acts occurred at the home of his girlfriend, Lois Vendecreek, according to an arrest report.

The charges were not a novelty for Blanchard.

In 1980, he was arrested and later convicted of molesting his own daughters, 5 and 7 at the time.

And then in the mid-1980s he made local headlines when he killed a man in a fight over drug money, got away with it, then confessed three years later because he said his conscience was bothering him.

He was convicted in 1988 of second-degree murder and sentenced after reciting a poem about the murder, titled "That Very Day."

He was released in 1997. Four years later, sheriff's deputies found his mother, Flora Coffey, two-days dead in her suburban West Palm Beach home and him asleep in another room.

He was ultimately determined not to be responsible for her death but taken all the same to the 45th Street Mental Health Center for evaluation.

Vendecreek said she and Blanchard had been living together for nearly seven years and said she couldn't believe that he had molested the children she cared for in her home.

She claimed the accusations stemmed from a dispute Blanchard had with one of her relatives, who she accused of telling the children to invent claims of sexual abuse.

"I think he told them to say things," she said of her relative.

Vendecreek said Blanchard, an out-of-work truck driver, denied the charges and was shattered by them.

"He cried and said 'I wouldn't mind going to prison if I was guilty, but I didn't do anything'," she said.http://news-press.com/article/20090220/NEWS01/90220050

Palm Beach County Sheriff's detectives say they know of six girls that were molested so far, the youngest was five years old. They also say there could be other victims. They still have three or four more kids to interview.

They say the girlfriend was unaware that Blanchard was molesting the children, so they don't anticipate charging her. However, the County Health Department could fine her up to $500 a day for running an unlicensed family day care.http://www.cbs12.com/news/say_4714778___article.html/blanchard_day.html

One morning last month, two women came to the sheriff's headquarters. They said they'd seen news reports days earlier about the Feb. 19 arrest of convicted murderer and child molester Marcus Blanchard, charged with sexually molesting six young girls.

The women were upset because, they said, two years ago, they'd warned authorities something like this would happen.

The two should know about Blanchard, they said; when they were children, he assaulted them as well.

It was the molestation of the two women in 1980, when they were 5 and 7, that had led to Blanchard's conviction on sex charges.

Their new details now have led to this week's additional charges, a sheriff's report says.

The two women told investigators that, some time in 2007, the younger one - now 33 - saw Blanchard picking up children at Wynnebrooke Elementary School, presumably to transport them to his girlfriend's day care center.

The woman said she talked to an assistant principal, going so far as to show her documents related to Blanchard's 1980 conviction.

"She took it from there," the 33-year-old said. "We talked to the school police and everything. All I was told about a week later was that the school talked to the kids and nothing happened from there."

In the 2007 report, the 33-year-old told sheriff's investigators "she believed (Blanchard) should not be around any children."

The report says a DCF investigator told the woman to call the agency's hotline and give the names of everyone involved.

The woman said today she never called DCF because she didn't know the children's names and because she presumed the school police would find out and fill in DCF officials.

In last month's discussions with sheriff's investigators, the younger woman said Blanchard had variously molested and raped her when she was between the ages of 7 and 9.

She said that the 1980 convictions mostly revolved around the older woman, now 36, and the newer charges mostly involve her. The younger woman, who had alleged in 1980 only that she was molested, has told investigators she now believes Blanchard raped her as well.

She told the investigators last month she'd confronted Blanchard in 1997, when she was an adult, and Blanchard "did not apologize and instead said he did it because she 'was there' and 'that he could,'" the report says.

I feel like a broken record, but WHY are these animals never made to serve the time they are sentenced for? Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick how many times is it going to take for it to sink in that some people should NEVER see the light of day again once they are sentenced? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Marcus Blanchard sentenced to 4 life terms in prison for molesting girls

WEST PALM BEACH — Debbie Carpenter has been waiting 27 years for justice for her father's murder.

On Wednesday, she said she got it when his killer, Marcus Blanchard, was sentenced to four consecutive life terms for molesting four girls at their babysitter's house in suburban West Palm Beach.

"This is like judgment day," Carpenter said. "He's never coming out."

Had Blanchard, 57, received an equally harsh sentence for killing her father over drug money in 1984, she said the young girls could have been spared.

"This would have never happened if they had never let the animal out to begin with," she said. "The justice system failed these little girls."

Attorney John Riordan, who represents Blanchard, said it might not be over yet.

While Blanchard was originally charged with molesting six girls, one charge was dropped because the girl was so young she had little memory of what, if anything, happened to her, he said. Further, Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Richard Oftedal found Blanchard not guilty of one charge of lewd or lascivious molestation when another girl changed her story during the trial.

There were also inconsistencies in the accounts of the other four girls who were between the ages of 6 and 10, Riordan said. He said he will use those lapses as grounds for an appeal.

However, even if the appeal succeeds, Blanchard still faces a charge of capital sexual battery for abusing his daughter in the early 1980s. No trial date has been set.

Carpenter, who lives in Miramar and attended the two-day trial with her mother, Deborah Carpenter, said it's time Blanchard got what he deserved.

Three years after her father's murder, Blanchard turned up at the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, saying he wanted to confess because his conscience was bothering him. He pleaded guilty in 1988 to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He was released in 1997.

She, her mother and siblings were stunned when he got out in less than 10 years. That's why his sentence and conviction meant so much.

"We were crying and hugging," she said. "This guy's finally getting his."http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/crime/marcus-blanchard-sentenced-to-4-life-terms-in-2223500.html

What the fail? 25yrs for murder and he served only 9? Thats not justice at all. Thats a slap in the face of the victim and their family. I hope his convictions stick. Its obvious he isnt interested in being anything other than a monster and we can use one less of those in the world.

Man his GF is one deluded stunned cunt. Really? They were making it up? What about the previous charges? Were they made up too? This asshole must have the worst luck in the world then.

ETA: Frankly, if she knew about his past charges and still babysat, she should have been charged too.
