IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- A man was killed, and his wife and adult son wounded after a deadly overnight hostage siege in Irvine Saturday morning.
Alwyn Gibson II of Fairfield, Texas was arrested following the five-hour standoff, according to Irvine police.
Gunfire broke out inside the residence shortly after 2 a.m., according to camera crew and police scanner reports.
One victim, a male, was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the back of his head, Focal Point camera crew reported. The second victim, a female, received a wound to the arm, and was also transported to a hospital, the camera crew said.
Police were called to the lakefront residence near Rainstar and Blue Lake about 9 p.m. Friday after receiving reports that an armed hostage-taker was holding three people hostage inside, Irvine police Lt. John Hare said.
He was believed to be a friend or associate of the captives, he said, adding that police did not think the suspect was related to the hostages.
Shortly after officers arrived, several nearby residences were evacuated, as police negotiators established contact with the alleged kidnapper, Hare said.
"Negotiators were talking to him, and he was being cooperative," he said as of 12:30 a.m. "They were optimistic that they would be able to have a peaceful resolution to the problem."
According to Focal Point and reports from the scene, Gibson is a former military man who was looking for his ex-girlfriend at her family's home. She reportedly has not lived there for several years, Focal Point added.
