http://i44.tinypic.com/2lliob9.jpgDavid Jones, 60, a former Morongo Unified School District trustee and member of the Citizens on Patrol, was arraigned on charges he abused four girls under the age of 14 over a period of three years.
Judge Rodney Cortez entered a not-guilty plea for Jones during his arraignment in Joshua Tree Superior Court. Bail was reduced from $1 million to $900,000.
Jones faces four counts of committing lewd acts upon a child, and is charged with an allegation of substantial sexual conduct in conjunction with one of the counts.
The first count alleges Jones abused a 3-year-old girl in February of this year. The girl’s mother is the person who initially made allegations against Jones, prompting an investigation by the county sheriff’s Crimes Against Children Detail.
Detectives searched Jones’ house and business and then arrested him on Feb. 13.
The second count alleges molestation of another girl in summer 2008; the third and fourth counts allege Jones abused two different girls in summer 2007.
Jones was at one time president of the Morongo Basin Foster Parents Association, but Ashley said none of the children he is accused of abusing were foster children.
“He all knew their parents,” she said. “Some of the parents (of the victims) knew each other and some don’t,” she added.
Jones was elected to the Morongo Unified School District board of trustees in November 2003 and served until he lost the seat in the November 2007 election.
