A convicted sex offender has been federally charged with a sex crime following a Feb. 13 incident in a home in Sanders.
According to information from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Flagstaff, tribal authorities were called to a home in the Navajo Housing Authorities in Sanders on a report of a developmentally disabled juvenile girl accusing an adult resident in her home of trying to have sex with her. The girl told investigators that she had been released early from school and was in her bedroom when the adult began banging on the bedroom door. She let the man in and the man touched her inappropriately and was attempting to have sex with her when she ran from the home and to a neighbor's home for help.
The man, arrested on public intoxication charges, later confessed to investigators that he inappropriately touched the girl and had planned to have sex with her.
He told investigators, "It's good that she left though, because if she was still there, that would be different."
Albert Goldtooth, 59, was charged with one count of abusive sexual contact with a juvenile.
