A man and his sister were hurt early Friday in a wild ride on Interstate 90 near the Ohio Turnpike split after a man gave them a ride, refused to let them out of the car and stabbed them, according to a sheriff’s report.

Clinton D. Buttolph, 23, of Elyria, faces charges including kidnapping and felonious assault in connection with the incident that occurred about 12:30 a.m.

He was being held Friday night in lieu of $84,500 bond pending his arraignment Monday morning in Elyria Municipal Court.

The brother and sister, who are 20-year-old twins from Lorain, were covered with blood when they were taken to EMH Regional Medical Center. Doctors stitched up cuts to their hands, and they were released, according to the report and a nursing supervisor.

The woman said she, her brother and a female friend had all been at Rack and Roll in Elyria and were getting a ride home from Buttolph and a second man they had just met, according to the report.

She said Buttolph “was acting all stupid” and driving recklessly. Things deteriorated when they passed a state trooper and Buttolph swore at the officer, she said.

Everyone wanted out of the car, and two people exited when Buttolph stopped the car, but Buttolph said, “You are not going anywhere” and accelerated with the doors still open, according to the report.

They heard a click and saw Buttolph had a green military-style knife in his hand, she told deputies.

She and her brother again asked him to stop and he said, “No, I am going to (expletive) kill you,” according to the report.

They again asked Buttolph to stop and he refused, she told police.

That’s when she said her brother punched Buttolph in the face, grabbed him around the neck and attempted to grab his arm with the knife, according to the report.

Buttolph stabbed at her brother, cutting his hand several times and coming close to stabbing him in the neck, she said. She said she was stabbed in the hand twice when she tried to assist her brother by grabbing the knife, the report said.

Her brother got Buttolph in a choke hold, and they jumped out after the car stopped, they said.

Later, a deputy stopped Buttolph, who told police he picked up a few people on Middle Ridge Road and one of the men punched him for no reason.

He denied having a knife, and no knife was found, but deputies found fresh blood inside and outside his car, along with a homemade weapon similar to brass knuckles.

Buttolph faces two counts each of kidnapping, felonious assault, aggravated menacing and one count each of possessing criminal tools and tampering with evidence.
