MIDLAND — A Midland woman is charged with beating her daughter to the point the girl had to be taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon.
Midland police have charged Roxanne M. Adkins, 33, of 725 Penn Ave., with aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment after her daughter, 14-year-old Rayven Adkins, of the same address, was taken by ambulance to The Medical Center, Beaver, with a swollen and cut eye, cuts and bruises around her throat and a bite mark on her left arm.
Roxanne Adkins told police her daughter kicked her when she tried to break up an argument in the Adkins’ home around 12:10 p.m. Saturday and that any injuries sustained by Rayven Adkins happened because Roxanne Adkins was defending herself.
Rayven Adkins told police that her mother struck her several times with a belt and a coat hanger, and when she resisted, Roxanne Adkins threw her on a bed and began choking her.
Lidia Lemasters, whom police identified as Rayven Adkins’ grandmother, told police she walked into the room during the altercation and saw Rayven Adkins pinned to a bed by Roxanne Adkins, who was choking the girl with both hands.
Court records filed by Midland police said officers saw no outward signs of injury on Roxanne Adkins, who requested medical attention when police arrived. She was taken by ambulance to The Medical Center, where, police said, she got into an altercation with a nurse.
Roxanne Adkins was in the Beaver County Jail Sunday night, after failing to post a $10,000 bond. Information about the condition of Rayven Adkins was not available Sunday.
