A 7-year-old boy is in serious but stable condition after his father allegedly choked him in their Alameda home Monday, Alameda police Lt. Bill Scott said.
Police received a 911 call at 11:42 a.m. from someone who reported that a boy in a house at 1148 Regent St. was having trouble breathing, Scott said.
When firefighters arrived, the boy's father, Bashir Haidar, 47, allegedly asked them if they had a gun, police said.
Firefighters said they did not have a gun and Haidar allegedly told them he wanted to shoot his son and his wife, Smith said.
Firefighters found Haidar's son on the floor in the master bedroom struggling to breathe. He was taken to Children's Hospital in Oakland.
Police have alleged that Haidar choked the child with his bare hands, but don't know why. Officers arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder and investigators were going to try to interview him this afternoon, Scott said.
Haidar and his son were the only people in the house at the time, Scott said.

Okay, what should happen is that boy should be taken from the father and never returned. No living with him, no visitation, no contact at all. What will most likely happen, however, is that the kid will be cleared from the hospital, sent back home and soon we'll read about him and his mother being killed. Not that I'm jaded about our topsy-turvey legal system or anything.

A man has told police that money troubles and repeated run-ins with the law are what led him to try and choke his 7-year-old son to death Monday morning. authorities said.
The boy, whose name was not disclosed, remains at Children's Hospital in Oakland, where his condition was upgraded today from critical to stable.
Bashir Haidar, 47, was alone with the boy at their residence in the 1100 block of Regent Street when he began choking him, police said.
"He stopped when the child says, 'Daddy, I can't breathe'," Alameda police Lt. Bill Scott said. "But then he started doing it again a short time later. He stopped again when the boy bit his tongue and began bleeding and foaming at the mouth."
Haidar then ran to a neighbor's residence, where he used their phone to call 911 to report that his son was having difficulty breathing, police said.
......
Alameda police officers have had numerous contacts with Haidar since 1997, public records show. He has been reported as a missing person, was a robbery victim and has been cited for littering, plus he has been arrested for public intoxication.
Haidar also has at least five recent traffic citations, police said.
Haidar cited the incidents when detectives questioned him following his arrest, saying his troubles with the police and the nation's sluggish economy are what led him to attack his son, according to investigators.

that is the dumbest fucking thing to blame kids for your asshole problems in the shitty life you created and unfortunatly dragged an innocent child into it. My life sucks but I don't see the purpose of blaming my kids, it's not their fault I didn't close my legs when I needed to. just WTF?
