OMAHA, Neb. -- An Omaha man was charged with child abuse after his 11-month-old son was treated for a head injury for the second time in two weeks.

Omaha police said Ryan Prusia, 23, was arrested Sunday at his home near 96th and V streets.

Prusia claimed his son fell down the stairs, but investigators say the same thing happened two weeks ago.

The baby was taken to the hospital by rescue squad on Sunday. Police said he’s expected to recover.

Bail is $750,000 in child abuse case

An Omaha man’s bail was set at $750,000 today after he was charged with child abuse in Douglas County Court.

Ryan S. Prusia, 23, must pay 10 percent of the bail amount — $75,000 — to be released from the Douglas County Corrections Center.

A prosecutor told Judge Edna Atkins that Prusia admitted to striking his 11-month-old son "numerous times" before calling a rescue squad Sunday. The boy was treated for a head injury and is expected to recover.

Prusia initially told authorities that the boy had fallen down steps at their home near 96th and V Streets. It was the same excuse he gave doctors two weeks earlier when he took the child in for treatment, according to the prosecution.

Atkins ordered Prusia to have no contact with the child or his mother, Abigail Skinner, if he is released on bail. A preliminary hearing has been set for late March.
